hi does anyone know any good and reasonibly priced kids tricks for parties. I already do ballon modeling and was wondering if we could compile a list of affordable childrens trick which work for others.

Cups and balls always go down pretty well, and require little practice. Or mabey sponge balls. If you want to include card tricks in your childrens routine, then get cardtoon.

There are many things to choose from, just visit some magic websites.

Cardtoon? Would that really play well? Whenever I do cards in such circumstances I stick to visual things. As well as this the settings and audience size is important - if you have a huge audience and/or an audience a bit of a distance away from you then a small card effect is going to be lost on the rest of the audience, and you will probably most likely loose their attention too.

On a different note, be careful what you choose. Sometimes they don't pick up on all the little subtleties and so form their own outright view on the method and how it all works.

same but i have this thought that kid are "not intelligent" enought to understand card tricks and that they need strong visual magic as said above is this true

Some reasonably priced effects:

Drawer boxes, Square circle, change bags, chick pans, silks, TT's, ropes,

You wont need all of them for the same show, so choose a couple.
There are instructions in MWCCIM book to make the Square Circle, which should be easy and cheap to make. You can then make it the size YOU want.

David Ginn does a routine with fish that he has made up and laminated onto paper, again very cheap. It involves having two sets, getting two children on stage to "mix" them, then they all end up being in pairs.
It is a picture/card game for children. You can use anything you want, so you can have lots of pictures of animals, which kids love. You can also change it if you want to have a "message" in your show. ( Good for schools I would think.) Haven't tried it yet, but keep reading through, as I will do it at some stage.

You already do balloon modelling, but if you want a game as part of your show, how about getting some round balloons and doing a "balloon stomp"? A few minutes of fun for the price of a few balloons per show.

For older kids...(8+)

I personally have found it doesnt work with young kids.

There was talk about doing "stickeys" for beginners. Maybe it is worth trying to get a list together?

Advice is asked for, but like here, it may not be suitable for all age ranges. Could it be an idea to have an 8 and under list and an 8+ list?

One card trick that does go down with all ages, is the six card repeat. It has a good basic story to it and is something I keep in my pocket as an extra or a backup.

I know it isn't what cardies would call a trick, but for children and on a stage, I've had good reactions.

Again, a nice cheap trick.

10 metres of rope, plenty to learn a few rope effects. £3.50

TT, around £3.50upwards, plus silks. (or you can use salt or anything you want)
