i always say this but.... I really think you should start with a book. Maybe the Royal road to card magic or Mark Wilson's complete course in magic.

No, but they will give you a good grounding in the basics of card magic so that when someone hands you a pack of cards and you don't have your gaffs and gimmicks you will actually be able to do some magic nonetheless, like a real magician would be able to.

Well it seems to me like you have no interest in magic and just an interest in a trick. If thats the case, hop on over to magictricks.co.uk and buy the hummer card. If you actually have an interest in magic, dont waste your time or your money on the hummer card.. I made that mistake. Spend it on the Royal Road to Card Magic books or dvd (I cant personally comment on this as I dont have it.. but everyone goes on and on and ON about it so it must be good :D) or another I would recommend is Oz Pearlmans "Born To Perform Card Magic" DVD from penguinmagic.com. I got this through last week and found it to be quite a good DVD for a beginner.

Well, you can do what/it how you want, but if you are a relative beginner to card magic then it is recommended as then you won't be this guy who can do one really cool effect under the right circumstances, you will be on your way to actually being a magician who can entertain at virtually the drop of a hat.

Erikthe182, you seem a bit TOO eager to perform this effect. Do you actually want to be a magician or do you just want a few little party tricks?

let me tell you how i started (and i am a professional Magician). I started with 2 decks of Bicycle cards, the royal road to card magic book, modern coin magic by BOBO and some sponge balls, i also had Mark Wilson's complete course in magic. Lots of great stuff to last you ages.
