Cards

Postby Mikey.666 » Aug 5th, '06, 12:37

right...i've gone through two bicycle decks now. and i have to say, they are great at first, but after a week of using them, they loose there "slide" and fanning and spreading quality, etc. becomes really...well...c*** (not the best). i've got a pack of cards from poundland. lol. i've had for about 2 years, and the finish hasn't worn off, still slippy as ever. the quality of the actual cards is c*** (not the best), but they slide really nice.

i was wonderin if anyone has any tips on keeping bicycles slidy, or have a personal preference to another card type.

p.s does anyone know any sites with card sleights on. i no the doble lift and pinky break, but i need to learn some new fake cuts and shuffles, as the ones i do are to obvious.
thanks.

Once mine have gone crappy i just chuck them in my draw, and either use them for splitting cards, or practising card vanishes, and mate dont bother with going on the internet trying to find sleights, get a decent foor such as Royal road to card magic £10, or buy yourself a decent dvd.

I would suspect that the reason why your cheap 2 year old cards still slide is that they're plastic coated - try a set of plastic Bikes instead of the standards.

When I was first starting out and just bought the odd deck of bikes here and there cards did seem to end up as unusable pretty fast! However you can get them back to a "workable" level. I use a "card press" but you can use a vice or a G-Clamp and two boards to flatten out the deck. I found that leaving the deck under pressure for about 3 days makes them nice and flat.

The best advice is to use new decks! At first it seems expensive but you could look into buying cards in bulk or "bricks".

Where are the cheapest bikes that the forum members have seen?

I know a lot of members go to Costco for bricks of bycicle cards as there pretty cheap.

I buy my cards from Magic box however, go with seconds!! There the same but only a pound cheaper!

Learn to work with a dirty deck, young man. some sod put one down in a puddle of booze today. I just wiped them off and carried on as best I could. Most of mine stink of fags in the morning anyway. Work them, punish them and use them. They're just cards. Get more. Get lots more. Oh, and don't ask for secrets. It makes you look cheap.

Worst thing about cards is when they go crappy and dirty, there hard to spread and you get them sticking together, and when you have no fanning powder annoys you, but i think the card press is a good ideea.

Does a perfectly flat deck even exist? Most of the bicycle decks are slightly bent and make the "click". Gets better after a warm-up, but nowhere near perfect. Makes some effects to perform rather difficult. Ive found other brand decks to be in better condition. I`m guessing this might has to do with the conditions they are held in, not sure. Does anyone know where to find near perfectly flat deck?
