Dollar Bill Vanish

Postby The Dark Wizard » Aug 6th, '06, 07:51

Here is my latest video. Again, I can't help the lighting as my camera is cheap and I don't have flood lights. And Hey, I am The Dark Wizard and NOT the Well Lit Wizard

My attempt here is to look more natural and expand upon the same utility as the hanky vanish. I also encluded some new hand gestures and movements to try and be more fair with the audience.

ALL feed back is appreciated. OH YEAH, after watching this several times, I know I tucked several times too many. I am working on it

Other than that, Let me have it!

heh, thats funny,

PROS:
i liked your straight faced style and presentation a lot, i think that works really well, and it did indeed look quite smooth and natural. (and as a beetlejuice fan i can't fault the music.)

CONS:
For what is in essence quite a simple vanish and reappearence, i think it was a tad too long. I think it would work a lot better done in about half the time Stand closer to the camera so we can see your hands better, as when the bill is rolled up it's almost impossible for me to see, although that may just be be.

Sorry that the cons took up more room than the pros, but it's constructive critisism you see, and i would not have taken the time to type this much if i didn't like your style my friend :D

Thanks majortom, your advice is noted and appreciated. I actually went out and bought a flood light today and it will enfuse considerable more light on future performances. Maybe this will overcome the short comings of the bad camera I have and as a result, my hands and general apperance will be better lit.

I totally agree on the finger tucking. I am gonna limit this to about four tucks TOPS in the future so it isn't quite as long. Other than the tucking and a few other hand gestures I intend on changing, I very intentionally take a bit longer for what amounts to be a 50 second effect. I try and make it a performance and not just simply BANG through the effect. Theres a fine line though and I am trying to find just the right speed (if you know what I mean). I am also pleased you like my style :-) Thank you for that!

Thanks again for your advice! :)

As you have already stated, limit the number of "tucks" you make.

Another thing to note is your display of the empty hand before the vanish. You pull your finger out VERY quickly (which is in stark contrast to the slow, deliberate motions you make before and after). You jerk your hand back, show it only briefly, and SLAM, right down to your side.

Take your time with this. You can be more casual and open with your display here. You already seem to have a strong foundation on how to cover your work, so the tools are already at your disposal.

The psychology is not to draw attention to the empty hand - but to be casual with it. Don't milk it in a "look here, this hand is completely empty" way - but remember that the magic moment hasn't happened yet. They don't suspect that hand, anyway - so don't feel you have to tuck it away in such a quick manner.

Once again, this was a fantastic effort. I'm really enjoying your videos. Keep them coming!

well done. I agree on the tucks... few too many (covered that)

No real pros/cons, but some things to try.

Everyone has a different style, but heres how I do it, incase you want to play with the difference.

with the "tucks"... end with your pointy finger... pull out pointing to your closed hand... then do your opening/vanish.

That way, it'll brings more attention to that finger(index if you will) and casually leaves the rest forgotten about.

just a thought.

Also: another way, instead of digging in for the reappearance.. gently move your hand side to side in a fluid motion causing it to jet out a bit. Might help with the look of digging in there..
