Whilst I may not be the most skilled, entertaining or inventive magician.... I may be the luckiest! The following actually happened to me about five years ago:
I was out having a drink with a group of friends when someone spotted a pack of cards behind the bar and asked me to show them a trick. I took the cards, shuffled them, p**ked the top card and then classic forced it onto a girl in our group. I handed her the deck and asked her to remember her card, place it in the middle of the deck and then shuffle it thoroughly. I knew, of course, what her card was and I was simply going to do a rather lame and uninspiring reveal. She shuffled the deck very thoroughly and quite competently for a good few seconds such that her card was clearly and unambiguously lost in the deck. She had nearly finished shuffling when, by pure chance, she fumbled and one card slipped out of her hands and headed towards the floor. As the card fell, it tumbled just once and gave me a glimpse of the face before landing face down on the floor. Nobody else caught a glimpse of the card, just me and, yes folks, you guessed it... IT WAS HER CHOSEN CARD! I didn't waste the opportunity and immediately told her to stand on the card she had just dropped. You can guess the rest of course, after reminding her of the fairness of the situation and pointing out that I had not been anywhere near her or the deck since she had picked the card, I told her to name the card she had chosen then pick up the one she had dropped. She did this and, to gasps of amazement, turned it over to show it was her freely selected card!
Hand on my heart that is exactly how it happened. The only downside is that I am STILL being asked to do 'that trick where the card falls on the floor'!
A once in a lifetime trick I suppose, I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had a fluke like this?
