"The Illusionist"

Postby fionalin7 » Aug 8th, '06, 05:26

This romantic costume drama could stand up to all those special-effects blockbusters in the dog days of summer!

Director Neil Burger delights in getting period details right! The illusions are smart, as is the script. The photography is gorgeous, as is Jessica Biel. And the line between truth and illusion is blurred so persuasively that for a moment or two, you may even believe that a romantic costume drama could stand up to all those special-effects blockbusters in the dog days of summer

I'm really looking forward to this one. I'm a huge fan of Edward Norton. Toss magic into the mix and I'm just as giddy as a schoolgirl...

It seems like you are going round alot of magic forums, posting the exact same thing, then leaving.

I'm sure if you contact the Mods, they will be able to tell you the charges for advertising, as it is clear you are something to do with promoting this.

An honest review is one thing. Advertising for free is another.

Also pretty pointless as we all know about the movie anyway and there are existing threads in this respect. The preview site is excellent and needs no hype like this. Let's make a deal here - if we get another 'proper'post from fionalin7 in the next 24 hours we'll leave this one where it is. If we don't get one we'll just wave our magic wand and make it all disappear - how's that sound  ?

Anyone see this yet and have a review?

Also, another magic flick coming out Oct 27th.. The Prestige.

Looks like I'll be getting to the theater at least a few times this year. :)

I liked The Illusionist and LOVED The Prestige. The Prestige was the better film, but it was so dark that it made me long for The Illusionist's love of life.

I liked both but much prefered 'the illusionist'.:D 'the prestige' was made far more complicated than the story actually needed to be and anyone familiar with certain victorian stage methods (some of which still used) will see the 'suprise' plot twists a mile away

I love the Illusionist

Postby Amanda Angeli » Jun 30th, '07, 12:45

Hello All,

I realize this is an older post but I just really totally and in all ways love this movie.

One of the things I like about it is the concept of the young magician going off alone, seeking adventure and magic in the wilds, then, coming back, unknown and bursting onto the scene of the magic of his city. Oh how that thrills my heart. It's the classic hero tale.

Golly, and I just love everything about the film. The acting, the story, the magic. I especially love how in those days you didn't for the most part have access to running to a store to buy a trick but instead and to imagine, design, build, and master all that you did. That type of thing just makes my heart race.

Oh how I can so identify with that.

I love pigtails and often wear them.

In any event, I just wanted to say how much I loved this film and I so wish there were more out like it. I love romance stories.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

I thought that the whole movie, including the ending was simply great.

The Ending

Hello Kenneth,

What was it about the ending that you did not like?

And, Dat,

I so agree, I just adored the ending. I love to think it was just as it showed. But of course, I am the eternal romantic, which, interestingly enough, I just thought, it is reflected in my magic style. The eternal romantic. So, here's a question for everyone, is your magic you? And, of course, how and why?

Love,

Amanda Angeli
