Protecting my cards?

Postby majortom » Aug 22nd, '06, 14:30

I've ruined a few decks of cards now by going out to bars, and pubs with them in my jeans pocket. The box soon deteriorates and gets shredded.

Any ideas on how to protect them?

I've seen this http://www.magicshop.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=card+guard&osCsid=7b0cd0fbe1b7a66f905c9fd47e7cdcb0 but i don't like the way it only protects them on 4 sides, leaving 2 exposed...

I thought maybe a tobacco tin might do it?

those card guards are fine...cards4magic.co.uk do em for 7 quid with a free pack of bikes too...

tobacco tins? if you can get the stench of the fags out i suppose they'd be ok - are those tins high enough though? but do you want them bashing about inside a loose tin?

Damn, you had to tell me that they were going for £7.50 with a free deck of bikes! I've gone and bought one now  :P.

sorry!

I'm thinking about getting some force and number symbols engraved onto mine...must only cost a couple of quid...

there's a lovely pewter one on steven's magic emporium site in the U.S., $40...a queen of spades/clubs hybrid on the front...

Ive tried it. Poker sized bicycle cards are taller, so it doesnt work.
I actually use the one you linked us to. You still get the dog ears on the box, but it really keeps the cards in good condition.

I actually bought the Tricycle trick, and I have yet to take it out on the streets cause I dont want to damage it. Any ideas as to how to protect it?

Well i'd use a NEW tin, and wrap a bit of sponge around the inside, but i think it would look a bit crude, and be a bit bulky.

I'll order a card guard, and see how it fares...

Porper clips rock! But they are a bit pricey. Card guards will do the job while you save up! I always keep a pack on me in a card guard, the boxes keep looking newer for ages.

Word of warning, the card guards are stainless steel. And a B*gger to engrave. I had to get a mate of mine to do mine for me. Timpsons could not do it. My mate did it and said it was a tough job.

Looks cool though. Simple card prediction on it.

I mostly carry cards in a "cell-phone case" attached to my belt (again - excuse my english, hope I express well what I mean). But anyway ... practising every day ... I need a new deck of cards about every two or three weeks, so I´ve never needed to think of a way to protect them :?

I just make sure I don't have too much stuff in my pocket when taking cards around. Sure they ware out after a couple months, but you can get 9 decks of Bikes for $12.00, so I don't see the problem. I usually give my used up decks to kids at shows.

A Joe Porper Card clip has been something to add to my list for a while, and I think I will pick up one on my next order.

Also if you look around at places like eBay and Cards4Magic you can get Limited edition Dai Vernon ones.
