Looking for career change. Any estate agents in here?

Postby dave_100 » Aug 28th, '06, 12:57

Am half looking for a career change, and estate agency appeals, but i have some questions if anyone in here has that job

Starting wage (and potential wage)?
What sort of hours does it involve working?
Days off?
Stressful?
Difficult?
How do I go about applying, and how do i know which estate agent in the area to apply with?
What would a standard day involve doing?
Does being computer literate help?
Company car? (i know its not important but i have to ask)

any other info on the career would be great.

thanks

My cousin owns a number of independant estate agents so I know a little about this.

Starting wage is often low and what makes your money up is commission on sales. When you've established yourself then things do tend to get better.

Working hours, lots! It's definately NOT a 9 to 5 job and it involves weekends and sometimes bank holidays too.

Stressful. I would think so. The phone never stops ringing when I'm in the office with customers chasing the progress on their offers, completions ets.

Difficult - I'd say that being a good organiser and obviously a good sales person is importmant. You can learn the asmins side..

Every job these days needs some computer literacy

Company car - not straight away

Go and speak to an few Estate agents to see if they are taking people on. Look for the boards outside of people's houses and count them up to see which are the dominant ones in the area..

Good luck

I would advise you not to work for Reynolds, know two people that work for them, and the commision on a sale is the lowest around.

any ideas on the total i could expect including salary and commission for say, the first year? (just an idea if possible, i know its hard to put a figure on it)

how much would you say you get from a house sale, as i have no clue.
what would be an average bonus total for a year?
