Sawing a woman...

Postby mark_c1975 » Aug 29th, '06, 18:19

Thought I'd put this one to the collective...

I was talking to my mate at work about magic, and the old 'Sawing a woman in half' trick came up. He said it would be more interesting if the woman was sawn in half from head to toe, rather than across the middle.

He asked if anyone had ever done this, and I didn't know.

So, my question is, has any magician ever tried this to your knowledge? If not, does anyone want to try? I'm sure the likes of Criss Angel could pull this one off no problem.

probably not without camera tricks - removing one side of her body via green screen or a seperated siamese twin :P

Sounds like an intresting idea, I'm surprised that it hasn't already happened.

You would have thought one of these new age illusionists like Peter Marvey, Franz Harary, or Copperfield woudl have tried it.

David actually has two versions, the Splitting a Lady and a bit where he is split up the center via a chain saw that he's been doing since the late 70s. prior to this was the Divided Lady which has been seen in several amusement park shows here in the States... it's a fun bit of business but not the best version to the effect.

There are a few others that have come out recently including a bit the Ken Whitaker and I were developing around the same time Copperfield's came out. In that the methods were so similar we never released it to the general market.

Criss Angel did it in Mindfreak, saw it on Youtube and it made me crinch rally bad, because if that's no cam tricks of some sort that is one poor lady he used.

I'll try to find it.

That Criss Angel effect is not the kind of thing Mark was asking about.

As for that one, no - it's not a camera trick, though I'm sure some people will argue that it was.

Randomly, in an old episode of Dangermouse, Count Duckula wants to be famous. One of his ideas is to saw himself in half... and he saws himself in half, down the middle of his body, not the usual across the waist way.

Useless and irrelevant, but worth pointing out, if only to see how many people have never heard of Dangermouse...

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I really don't think that kind of graphic is required given both, the video footage supplied and the conversation that's transpired. If sexual issues are the limit to your intellect you may want to find a forum that caters to such low modes of function.

No, I don't think he was being sarcastic. It was the graphic description. How else would you cut someone in half lengthways?

I can think of two ways.

Think of the three dimensions.
