I was wondering if anyone can help me ive just brought Razors edge and Public transit by Jay Sankey off of magictricks.co.uk. I recieved the tricks today but the dvds for the instructions are copied so they dont play on my dvd player. For one i thought that was illigel to sell copied dvds. I know you get written instructions but i paid for the dvd so i should be able to watch it. So could someone just tell me if its illegal to sell copies because if it is when i ring them up they cant make excuses and say well the instructions are written as well. If it is illegal they wont have a leg to stand on and will have to send me a proper dvd or refund me which i think would be fair could i just have your opinions on this please

magictricks.co.uk dont sell dodgy goods - give them a ring if you feel the need to though...they'll probably offer you a refund...

it's probably you're dvd player, worth testing it out on a p.c. or other dvd players first though :)

Erm yer its not illegal to copy them for your own personal use thats why people can buy dvd burners etc, but for distipution such as in your case it is illegal, becuase they will be ripping of the magician for alot of money, if all they are doing is buying one dvd then mass copying them. And if i am write on it i woulddnt just ask for a refund sue the pants of them

For all these people who think its a player problem well firstly you can see its a copy because the front of the cd has a sticker on it also the disk is purple which indicate its copied and i have tried it on 3 dvd players a pc and a playstation. For the rest of you who have given me advice thanks for your help i will get in contact with them.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your support on this. Lindz - I can assure you we DO NOT nor have we EVER ripped off other peoples DVDs. The DVDs you received came directly to us from Jay Sankey and should have a registration code in them. They would also have been shrunk wrapped, so we had no way of checking that they were properly duplicated - we had to trust Jay with that one.

If you have a problem with these items, or any other purchased from us, please log a call on our helpdesk system (details on the 'Contact Us' page of our site) and we'll get this issue resolved. I would have thought this would be the first course of action you would have taken before posting insinuations like these on a public forum.

As you may be aware, we've decided not to renew our agreement with Jay, so we may not be able to offer replacements on this occassion. However, if the items are substandard, or faulty, we'll certainly be happy to offer a refund. Alternatively, if you'd like replacements, you may wish to contact Jay directly.

With best regards

ok for 1 one of the disks was not shrink wrapped so therfore you could have checked that one and for 2 i have been ringing your phonline all day so if anyone would have answered it then it would not have been over this forum because it would have been sorted out this morning. I never said i blame magictricks.co.uk i think you are a very good site and i have ordered from you in the past which have been very good. I know it might have directly come from Jay i just wanted to know if it was illigel

It's not illegal. Jay owns the right to his work so he can produce them how he wants. They might be DVD-Rs, I think Penguin said one of his DVDs was anyway. The ones I have had from Jay are the same but I've not had a problem with them.

all but three of my sankey dvd's are that colour, only the posher ones are clear like "regular" dvds...sometimes they judder a little in my player...

...it also depends on your dvd players, if they are quite old, they dont always except other types of dvd/media...newer ones do...

...i believe playstation2s had this problem originally, until the newer models came out...

dont forget, some magic dvds are much smaller runs than hollywood blockbusters, so to keep costs down, lesser known brands of dvds will be used...

If this is their brand and their copyrights they can copy and sell this item without permission

If this is a DVD by someone else i dont think they are allowed to sell copies as this is infringment(spelling) of copy rights

There are different types of DVD as well; DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW. The players you tried the video on may not support the type that Sankey put the video on, meaning they wouldn't be able to read anything from the DVD. I had the same problem burning DVDs on my PC then trying to watch them on my television - the DVD player wouldn't read the DVDs.
I'm sure that if you contact Jay or have a chat with Carl then you can get it sorted out.

Indeed, older DVD players will only play "pressed" (i.e. silver) DVDs, you need a newer one or a computer to play a DVD-R or something of that ilk (purple that is). If you don't have anything that can play it I would contact Sankey not magictricks.co.uk and ask for a refund...

I bought "create your own magic" (purple back although don't think its illegal copy) and "amazing magic and mentalism" and neither of them will play in my dvd player but they do play in my computer so it is probably a player problem.
Do you have anything else connected to your tv as well as dvd player like video recorder or games console cause I have a feeling this might be causing the problem. Does it play in black and white or not at all?
I've bought quite a lot from magictricks.co.uk in the past and the only time I've been unhappy is when they sold me faulty mirage and stripper decks but they offered me a refund.
My DVD player says +DVD RW/-DVD RW so why won't it play any of my magic dvds?

Your DVD player may have logos on the front to show what formats it can play - ours handles RW for instance. If you don't see a RW-compatible logo on it then it probably can't manage them.
