Magicians of Illusion

Postby Magicians of Illusion » Sep 7th, '06, 19:01

I have created a new site whose aim is to include as many illusions as possible from Youtube. There is still a lot of work to do, but you can watch more than 100 illusion clips.

Please, let me know your opinion so I can improve it.

Enjoy!

3) Do you actually trawl YouTube every day yourself looking for these things?

4) What's YouTube's policy on you embedding their content. Do they allow it?

First of all, thank you very much for your comments.

I will try to give you an answer to your questions:

1) are the clips all uploaded by you?

No, just some of them.

2) if not will you monitor each link in case the owner removes it?

Yes, from time to time I will check ALL links.

Anyway, in order to be faster repairing links, I am thinking about creating an address where visitors could alert us about broken links (and other stuff).

3) Do you actually trawl YouTube every day yourself looking for these things?

Almost everyday... but not only YouTube, I also trawl the entire net searching for new clips and when I find one that is not uploaded in YouTube I upload it in my own YouTube account.

4) What's YouTube's policy on you embedding their content. Do they allow it?

The decision of allowing other websites to link with a certain video depends on the person that uploaded it on YouTube. Anyway, YouTube should be happy with my website. It means lots of publicity for free ;)

5) Why don't you tell us something about you in Introduction forum?

Good idea, I will post an introduction as soon as I can.

Thank you all again for your comments. Further questions/suggestions will be very welcome.

6) Do you contact the people who upload their videos to get their permission?

7) Slashdot reports today that YouTube serves 100 million hits/day. Do you honestly believe they need your publicity?

Firstly, I would like to apologise for any mistake in writing, I am Spanish so my English is not as perfect as yours.

More questions, more answers ;)

6) Do you contact the people who upload their videos to get their permission?

No, I don't contact them because they allow other sites to link to their videos.

7) Slashdot reports today that YouTube serves 100 million hits/day. Do you honestly believe they need your publicity?

You are right. YouTube doesn't need my publicity at all, what I mean is that YouTube, at least, shouldn't be annoyed, it is a service they offer.

8) what do you gain from your website?

By now, nothing (the site is two days old and has had only 30 visits, hehehe). But I would like to get enough money from Google Adwords to pay the domain and server costs.

On the other hand, making this site I have a place to find my videos quickly without wasting my computer space, and I would feel very proud if it becomes a success in the future.

5) (again) Introduction

Mmm... I am a 29-year-old boy from Spain. I work in a marketing department. I like stage magic illusions, but not close-up magic. I have been crawling the net for years - looking for illusion clips -, but I couldn't find a site with lots of videos, so I decided to make one where to place all videos I find. And...I don't know what else....feel free to ask.

I will really welcome comments about how to improve the site.

Thanks again!!

It just leaves me wondering why you've introduced a level of manual abstraction over the YouTube idea. Isn't it easier to go to the sites and search on demand, especially as yours needs to be manually updated?

(Sorry, I am not sure to understand you - as I said I am Spanish -, so I give an answer but perhaps it is not what you are asking. If not, please post the question again in other words)

For visitors, search on demand means more time that looking the site.

For me, well, indeed it takes longer, but just the first time. From then I know that the clip is there without wasting hard disk.
