Invisible Palm

Postby Dirty Davey » Sep 11th, '06, 09:24

Ok as this seems quite a popular one at the moment, I thought I'd make it my first TM vid.

I know it needs some polish but I'm using a mat now for all my card work which has made things easier and the trick look better since filming this.

Any comments are well recieved.

Nice work!

The only point where I think you could use some work is right in the beginning of the effect.

I recommend checking out Paul Harris' handling of the effect. One point to work on, is the initial display of the aces. Your handling seemed suspicious just by the way you handle the last ace. It's completely different from the handling of the first three, and as this one is the last they see - it draws attention. Paul's handling deals with this issue quite well, and gets you set to perform the trick in a great way.

Your reveals were fine - but I'd focus on having the cards being spread just a bit more - it helps to sell the impossibility of the transfer (in my opinion).

Without patter the effect seems a bit rushed - but since there was no patter here (I'm assuming you don't have a mic or something like that) it's not something to worry about. Do you slow the presentation down a bit in live performance, or do you maintain this pacing?

Great job. Keep it up!

Thanks,

I agree the handling of that last ace during the initial display is a bit suspect, I have since improved that but I will check out Paul Harris's handling as that is the part I have the most trouble getting to look right.

I guess I do work faster in front of the camera, with a spec present I tend to be a lot slower as I give it all the gab. I'll try slowing things up for the cam in future.

Thanks for the feedback

not bad.
a few hints tho. again, try and slow the whole thing down a bit.
on the last one where you put the last (ace) in the deck, shuffle it. i usually say *this is how they win in casinos, they glimpse the card they need, and shuffle it to the top, then do an invisible palm*
the invisible palm is a WOW effect, but palming a card through atleast half a deck, I'm not a fan.
and finally, when you place the *three* aces down make sure they are spread and not in a pile, it adds to the effect.

good job.

Just a quick one, does anyone have the link for the famous Invisible Palm from that American guy's live show. I'm sure it's on youtube, but I can't find it. It's a video of a pro magician, rather than a home video.

I think it originated on ebaumsworld.

I normally wouldn't ask for such nonsense but I'm dying to show a friend of mine.

Thank you in advance for your help.

thanks everyone, some good tips there. I've been working on this quite a bit and it's looking much better now.

it's a bit stiff.

Your tent vanish could use some work also. Try propping the card up a bit higher.

Don't be affraid to handle the cards more fluently, you hold them so hard as if there's a deck of cards behind the one card you are showing. Other than that, it's very good.

nice job, but dont slide your hand too much. You should swivel your hand to make it more natural.

The effect aside, that video had the best soundtrack I've yet heard on any file sharing video. Nice one :D
