Magic Shops

Postby xblue_heavenx » Sep 13th, '06, 18:49

Hey all :) I am new to magic but I have believed in it since I was young.
Are there absoloutley no magic shops in Birmingham city centre or around Walsall?
Also i have never been inside a magic shop before. Can you tell me what to expect and exactly what they stock?
And do you get help and advice from the owner?
Is it actually possible for someone experienced in magic to sense if another has the gift of magic?

Sorry for all the questions :)

I'm around that area, the one shop that I use regularly is House of Magic in Stourbridge. It's about a thirty minute train ride from the centre of Birmingham. The shop itself is a bit out of the way but the guys at HOM are so helpful that it's worth it. Ask them for some directions beforehand and you'll find it no problem.

Most shops stock all sorts - Books, DVDs, Videos, single effects, props, accessories; and HOM has all of these. They're a small shop so their stock line is not huge, but they have a lot of the new effects out and a good choice of material. Like I said before, they are really helpful there and know what they are talking about. Friendly bunch too. My experience at other places has been the same.

As a born and bred Brummie I have to say I don't recall seeing any 'real magic' shops in Birmingham, certainly not in the City Centre. There are plenty of places where Tarot cards, crystal balls and a vast range of books etc are on sale – Borders, Waterstones and so on all have a wide selection under the Lifestyle section. Also, don’t forget my favourite bookshop – The Works!

On the outskirts of the region are plenty of ‘Craft Centres and so on where you might find your kind of magic – Earlswood Craft Centre has a charming little shop - http://www.earlswoodlakescraftcentre.co ... tuary.htm- which deals in a range of items. There used to be similar shops at Hatton Country World but I have a feeling they may have closed or moved elsewhere. Hope that helps!

Ah - just re-read the first post and realised what kind of magic you mean. In that case - if it's not tricks you're after - then HOM isn't the place for you.

I'm not sure that I've EVER seen a magic shop in the sense that I think that you mean it. Nearly ALL magic shops, the ones that we tend to frequent are away from town centres anyway.

I suppose that you could use Google for Occult shops instead of magic if that's any help?

Good luck.

I know there's a pagan meet that happens other Tuesday in one of the hotels in Brum. Don't know much about it but used to know someone who attended regularly.

Not sure what sort of things you're looking at getting hold of but there are plenty of places on the net you can get things from. I'm from a pagan background myself so if you need any advice jut drop me a PM.
