Just as we feared, The BBC are talking about stopping the show:

Typical BBC

They can give hours on TV and radio to political and religious extremists and subversists etc. but an hours worth of motorists a few weeks each year is now considered unacceptable!

Well, if someone copies them and dies or is seriously injured...

...it's their own bloody fault

I agree - there's far too much of the nanny state these days. People have been speeding and breaking records since the car was invented and the absence of one TV show won't change that.

People will see car chases on the movies which are far less safe as they give the impression that cars are virually indestructable.

We're going to end up as a nation that's wrapped in cotton wool while the rest of the world have the freedom to choose.

We're forgetting that the results of the crash investigation are not yet published which may show that just about every safety measure was in place and that's why Hammond very fortunately survived.

At this moment in time it's a load of do gooders full of hot air trying to tell us what's best for us. You could just as easily get hit and killed by a drunk driver.

not worried about top gear getting banned

used to be a racer in my old life and to be quite honest the papers have a story but no new news

So they print what might happen. If someone wanted to copy hammond and break the speed record they would have to spend a lot of reserch, a lot of time and a lot of money which we the public ain't got. Whilst you spent time figuring out how to do it the risks make themselves apparent.
The crew you get have to be good and if your a prat they will work for someone else or sack you or both

every year they try to ban the TT, I was a sidecar passenger and the chances statisticly of not coming home was 1 in 30 at one point :!: but when I got the call to go I wanted so much to do it but alas other commitments stopped me. they still race the TT and always will.

I once new a passenger who gave up the TT due to fear, he broke his body up bad two years running :!: the reason he gave up was because he was scared of flying and helicopter ambulences are scary things to be flying in (they take bad cases to liverpool):!: he still races in this country today good lad that he is

If they ban top gear they would have to ban horse racing, eventing etc it encourages young ladies to ride dangerouse horses and most MP's like to see young ladies riding horses

ironic reference to 'TT' on a magic forum. nvm...

yes, well the police are worried about copycats, but if someone is stupid enough to try and break the land-speed record on the M6 at four in the morning with a hyper-zooped up 'pimped-out' peugeot 206 with a broken neon light on the front and a peeled off sticker down the side, then maybe they deserve to die...
let's just hope the only ones they kill are themselves.

Sorry, thats a little bit over the top. And I didn't even mention fury dice. don't get me started on fury dice...

Ive seen so many of these stupid people out there that would do this but im all for makin them wear signs sayin "i am stoopid please stop me" then when you see one of these people tryin to change a fan belt on a car while the engines runnin you can go up to them and say hey and point at the sign. I think IQ tests should be manditory for all people that operate machinery not just cars.

Unfortunately, wilful stupidity is still not illegal in the UK.
