Flashy hits the headlines!

Postby Flash » Sep 21st, '06, 18:48

Well not quite the headlines, more of an article really about me, my balloons and a forthcoming event in Sheffield. Anyway I thought that you all might be interested so there's a link below.

http://www.sheffieldtoday.net/ViewArtic ... ID=1779803

(just click the link at the side of the page "Event won't be a letdown" for full article)

Between 10am & 4pm on Saturday I'm going to be attempting to build a replica of the Brooklyn Bridge made out of modelling ballons as part of an event called "Down by the Riverside 2" at The Kelham Island Museum. The event also includes entry to the museum and guided walks down the River Don... Probably the most enticing part is that it's free to all and sundry, including entry to the museum, so if you fancy seeing old Flashy cursing bursting balloons why not "pop" down.

(Sorry everyone about the pun, it's really there for the pun conniseur that is Mandrake)!

Well I have been putting on some weight but I didn't think anyone had noticed...

Seriously though thanks guys, as well as designing the bridge I've been creating a model of a historical character for the museum. I'll try and post some photos next week...

never underestimate the power of a home-grown 'tache...

something to tweak infront of a group of women and exclaim
"i say...." in your very best Terry Thomas voice...

i've grown mine to a fairly ridiculous length now...

If only the tash was real, but the missus objects everytime I try and grow one...

The gig went really well, I wanted to give a link to the article that they wrote in the Sheffield Star but couldn't unfortunately find one online.

I started a little late and had to rush the bridge in the end, so like all good construction jobs it was finished a touch late, it also meant that I couldn't make the supports as detailed as I wanted. There was quite a crowd as completion neared including the man who's building the real replica that will bridge a small section of river in Sheffield (I suggested balloons as the best material for his project but for no apparent reason he seemed to prefer steel).
I'd also constructed a character from Sheffield's history the previous day, a buffer girl. Like a true proffesional she worked diligently throughout the day polishing her jugs (steel ones obviously)!

Anywho, here's a couple of photies for you...
