Sex? Who said that???

Yes, I've heard of it - even seen one in action - but I'd not know where to start in terms of obtaining one - hence no post.

All I can suggest is that there's a central pillar with loose fitting milled rings which sit around it, with a real coin on top of it. This would give the illusion of a stack.

When I saw it performed, I already knew how the mechanics worked, so I was ready to kind of pay not much attention... BUT... it actually did appear that the coins were unevenly stacked.

For instance - take a stack of 8 10p coins and stack them - they'll never be perfect. That's the illusion this set gave. It was very strong indeed - and I'd imagine that it's not too difficult to manufacture - but obviously more time consuming than the regular solid version.

Other things that made his set stand out was the design of the brasswork - it was quite ornate, almost Eastern.

I've not seen one since, although I do remember reading about a hand crafted set available about 5 years ago which cost about £150.

I'll do some recreation searching around for you, but I think that a lot of the old hand-crafted and original stuff has passed - Dynamic Coins now seems like a cheap production line item. A shame.

After I originally mentioned this a couple of months ago I have looked around and not found a set. Has anyone around here got some metalworking tools?

the gimmick is what was once called a hinged stack. i cant see it working in Dynamic coins, because of the way their made. I think that you may be confusing it with a cap and coins effect, which , as a clasic coin effect, will allow its use.

Nope.
This was definately a dynamic-coins type effect.

There was a stack of what appeared to be loose coins, which disappeared from one lid to reappear in the other.

Dynamic coins are great fun to do but I would advise not wasting your money on a - as you call it - posh version. The non "posh" version is sold almost in any joke shop so it is well known to the public , but even if you got an extra special version of Dynamic Coins , it is still the same pricpal and the public (or whoever you are showing it to) would still know how its done. I also think 'seige' is right , Dynamic coins have turned into something that is seen as a cheap production.Thats just my opinion though.
