We cant really tell you if they would work for you.

to know that, you will have to try it out in a show or two. see how it plays.
You just have to find out how to incorperate it into your show, how would it play. does it have a flow to it. will it be a comedy bit or a challenge.

Iwas thinking more of a comedy routine just to brake my routine up with somehing diffrent so far my stand up show goes :

D'lites
Card through silk
Card to envolope
Chop cup
C&R rope
Ring on string
Jay scott beryy style Sponge ball rountie
Short card Manipulation routine
I was going put the escape here
the razor blade illusion

Trouble with handcuff escapes is that the audience may not know exactly how you do the escape, but they can generally imagine that there's some kind of gaff involved. Even if you're intending to use straight handcuffs.

I used to use handcuffs a lot, especially when I used to do kids shows. Then one day a kid said "Oh there's just a button that he presses to open them." That was the day I began to question my use of handcuffs and escapology in general.

If you are wanting to do a handcuff escape for boys/girls (kids I'm assuming here) and wanting a bit of a comedy type act with it...

I suggesting maybe doing a Thumb cuffs routine.

The cuffs are examinable.. not gimmicked.

you can lock them up first (if doing close up) and then they get to lock you up.

as soon as they put a hankercheif or cover over your locked thumbs, you immediatly grab the keys from you pocket and put them in their hands while telling them that they had better hold onto the keys so you can't escape. (while you just did with one hand).

You put your hand back under cover and immediately jerk the "cheif" off both hands showing them they are locked up tight.

YOu can repeat with one hand, or the other hand, and even make the cuffs dissapear at the end of the routine.

Cost is inexpensive, they pack well as they are small, and its a fun routine to do.

Just a thought.

Thanks Joe i was looking at the Thumbcuffs and toying w ith the idea. sounds great for close up. I am getting the feeling though a regular pair for stand up is not the way to go.

The thumb cuffs are fun.

I don't know.. with regular handcuffs, unless you are doing some trick or illusion that works along with handcuffs, just a pair of them doesn't do much.

use them with Metamorph or something, then it might be worth it.

can't go wrong with Thumb cuffs though. Inexpensive for one thing, and a nice little routine to go along with it.

My set came with a cheap plastic case to hold them, but it has held up well. Has a belt loop attachement, so you can easily wear it on your pants near the back and just break them out if you want to.. or just leave them there. They are light and small so it doesn't matter.

i got a nice pair of thumb cuffs from steven's magic emporium the other day...i was just curious really...

they're not rigged, and the escape is very sneaky (but simple) - most enjoyable...i have some ideas now as to how to implement them.... £7 - cant go wrong really...
