Advanced Card Magic

Can someone please recommend the best dvd to get for advanced card magic, something which would compliment knowledge of Daryl's Encyclopedia.

Hmmm...

advanced card magic? Tough, this one.

Once you've gone through Daryl's Sleights DVDs, I would recommend about a years worth of practice. All of a sudden, you'll be doing advanced card magic!

I think it's advanced technique you will then move onto, of which I would personally recommend Lennart Green, Kauffman - in fact, there's a huge list.

It depends what your final goal is. Reading is a much richer source - and I'd recommend Paul Harris, Hugard/Braue, Paul Gordon, Marlo etc...

Dont forget Derren brown!

You might find it hard to get his video and books but it is worth it.

Hmm... I wouldn't say that there's much on the Brown video or in the book that goes into advanced card magic, as much of the stuff is borrowed or cloned from other magicians.

Browns influences, like Lennart Green, Jennings etc are the ones to learn the advanced techniques from - whereas the benefit of the Brown video is more about the performance.

For sure, it's an awesome set of routines, but the real advanced magic is taught elsewhere...

I meant that the tricks use advanced work rather than teaching it.

Ahh, sorry Nick.

Yes, the Brown video [i]utilises[\i] advanced magic rather than teaching it step-by-step.

The advanced sleights and techniques used are moulded into routines.

Actually - it's just dawned on me - there's a definate division here, although the areas actually mix into each other:
1: Techniques = sleights, misdirections and skill
2: Routines = utilising Techniques either singly or in multiples to facilitate a rhythmic ensemble, usually with a start, finish and end
3: Performance = the individual character that the magi uses to stylise his Routines. Usually involves custom handlings of the various Techniques

Does anyone agree, or am I spouting nonsense as usual???
