when i go pro, agents and the vat man

I have a question I will keep it to the point as much as I can , I think this may be directed towards the pros. When I go pro and if I haven’t got an agent I understand I will be self employed dose this mean I will be able to claim V.A.T and stuff back from the taxman for effects I buy whilst pro?, Second part of the question is if I am working for an agent will I be an actual employee of theirs or will I still be self employed but paying them for there work. Or do different agents have different policies on this?

Any help that you guys could give me would be really appreciated I don’t know if this has been raised before but I couldn’t find anything on it in the search function.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Have a look at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic1989.p ... commercial for some previous discussions. In general terms, you should be able to offset your expenditure on props, travel and so on against Income Tax but not VAT. You can only claim back VAT when you sell items and you're registered for VAT with the minimum turnover of £60,000 a year - you can register for a lower annual figure but you'd need to use a good accountant to sort all this out and it's money well spent!
