Need help with coin sleights

Postby SpongeBallSlight-of-hand » Oct 17th, '06, 05:49

Hi, I'm 18, i've been doing magic since I was 10. My name is Kevin. I've only sleight of hand has to do with sponge balls, which I've done a sleight of hand rountine for years. I can produce the ball in many different ways, vanish them, make 2 appear in the spectators hand, and make them all vanish at the end. As well as change the color of the balls from red to yellow.

I recently wanted to get into coin sleights. So I purchased a book, Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. All I can say is, wow, those are some hard sleights in the book. I just cannot get them down. Like the backhand, the classic palm. I got the flourish the coin roll down and a verison of the thumb palm where you keep the coin between the index and thumb. Any suggestions?

1) Lots of practice
2) Practice some more
3) Don't try to learn every one in the book, simply select a couple that have a wide range of versatility, use them until they happen with little or not thought, and then look at some others. I find that I used to read a book from cover to cover and try to learn every move.....bad idea!

Coin sleights

Postby DrTodd » Oct 17th, '06, 07:08

I would learn

Finger palm
Bobo switch (Jay Sankey uses this in so many effects)
Click pass (very useful for coins across)
Classic palm (most used of all): good to be able to palm mulitple coins
Thumb palm

You may find the pre-decimal pennies are best, since they have a flat outer edge.

PM me for more details.

Here's a list of all the sleights that you should use (trust me on this):
1. Classic palm
2. Finger palm
3. Thumb palm
4. Downs palm (the best in the world. Do some research not really allowed to teach it to you)
5. Back palm

There are the basics for you. have fun :)
