How to renew the 'sticky' bits on the rising card trick?

Postby yoshi » Oct 18th, '06, 08:32

I have the rising card trick from the pack, aka David Blaine.

It's a great trick, but the sticky pad has run out of sticky! What should I do to renew the sticky bit?

Also, I have the KK transform to 55 card trick which relies on adhesive on the cards to join them together, this has run out, how do I reapply the adhesive to this?

You could try either repositional glue (blue glue) which dries like the sticky on a Post-It note from craft shops or places like cards4magic and other on line suppliers, or double sided tape from Staples and other stationery outlets. If you use the tape make sure you remove a lot of the sticky by pressing your finger on several times until only a small amount of adhesion is left. In both cases only a very small amount is needed.

Thanks, I'll try 'blue glue'....these are two of my favourite tricks, the audience love them and quite easy to perform.

What do you think of magicians tape available on ebay?

And the best double tape I could find on the market:

I tried 4 different brands, and the Sellotape one seems to be perfectly suited. See—that's what I call looking after customers ;)

Could you use those small adhesive pads too?
about the right size and could be cut, but might be too sticky... :?
Well, good luck anyway

Hmmm. There seems to be a lot of threads about something going wrong with this gimmick. This might be the fourth thread where I suggest that you should learn a sleight (such as the witchcraft rise or plunger rise, both from Expert Card Tecnique) that produces the same effect instead of using a gimmick. Not only is the deck inspectable this way, but your sleights don't break down on you  .

Quite frankly, I'd say the tape.

The glue is adequate for the other effect though—in fact, better than tape in my opinion.

They're both pretty handy items to have in your toolkit. And I'm not just saying that because I sell them... I only sell things at NUMS which I've personally used/reviewed or recommend, I'm not so much in it for the money as much as sharing a bit of tried and trusted kit.

So the glue for that other trick then.. good.. I have also put some 'mixed fake' cards in my basket for that trick too. I think the double sided tape might be a bit noisy for that trick in particular..

So the tape.. does it release from the card easy in rising card deck.. because I used the double tape I had and it made the card rise beautifully but to get the card off the tape was a bloody nightmare!!

My basket is getting more expensive at NUMS everyday.. but Seige.. if my wife asks.. no matter how much comes through the post.. it only ever costs £25ok?? She thinks thats more than enough to spend on magic I am not making money off !!

ID - tell yer wife to shut her cakehole and ask her if you money be better spent on alcohol, crack cocaine and loose women :P

I think the stickiness is something that needs to be calibrated. When I got the rising card trick and the KK into 55 trick, they both were a bit sticky.

Sometimes people could hear a noise as I pulled about the KK/55 cards. So I just did it 1-way and didn't reverse once the cards were stuck. I'd then throw them on the table so they looked like 2 cards only.

Solution - just keep pressing cards on/off the sticky bit until it's ideal.

Also, I think the gimmick rising card deck is very kewl, because you can rest it against a glass and the card rises hands free. That really blows people away as they know you're not making it rise with yourhands.

The natural skin oils will remove a lot of it and leave only sufficient to hold things in place while you want them there. A bit of patter at the same time as removing them will help to cover any unfortunate noises.

Ages before NUMS was even thought of, seige was quietly recommending Changin' Glue from mail order craft places such as Card Inspirations - I still have one tube left from those ancient days and I see that NUMS sells it 70p cheaper!
