jumping gemini

Postby Mikey.666 » Oct 20th, '06, 14:34

ok guys. after making my own simpler version of jumping gemini, i decided to go back to my dvd and learn the original. however, i have a problem. my turnover DL is very poor, and i personally don't like it.
my problem. when showing all four cards have turned from *2 of hearts to 10 of spades* when performing the t.l's and d.ls you hold the previous cards in your left hand, well right hand for most of you. but yeh, i can't do the turnover whilst holding other cards in my hand, i find it extremely difficult and awkard. is there nay other ways to overcome this, via doing a different style d.l or what not. i need assistance on this one.

thanks.

While I believe retaining the cards in the hands while doing the diminishing sequence is the best route (it's the most natural and requires the least bit of movement and/or fiddling), there is an easy way around it - which you can perform while you hone your sequence in private.

With each turnover, you turn the card face down and then place it on the table. Repeat this - and with the final two cards you would pull the ten of heart completely away from the face down card in your hand. Then, perform your MT (it needs to be a GOOD one in this particular situation - the "in the hands" sequence lets you cover this move quite a bit - with it out in the open, your move needs to be quick and smooth). Place the face down card on top and openly display the ten of hearts (spin it around or whatever you like to finish). Drop the ten face down on top of the packet and pick it back up.

In order to continue, you now need to reverse the cards - so count them back into your other hand, one at a time. It's not nearly as smooth (and breaks up the flow), but it won't detract from the overall strength of the effect.

You can try that out - but I highly recommend sticking with the original handling. There's a reason Darwin Ortiz structured the effect in this way - and I believe it's one of the few effects out there that doesn't need much variation.

I've never really been a fan of Jumping Gemini becuase of its overuse of the "..." slieght of hand. I think it has to be almost mastered and completely clean before it is capable of being used in a real situation.

As far as packe tricks go, my favorite is Color Monte. And yes, I know that the two are releativly similar, but I just love the finally of the Monte. 8)

Just a little suggestion that I have for you that I utilize for the the final sequence.

I utilize jokers rather than court cards. It makes the ending very clean and it helps out with the showing of.....erm....you likely know what I mean...otherwise PM me.

Try feeling the bottom card of the packet and pushing off the top cards. This is how I perform this, it is also how I do my Elmsleys. I have yet to see a more natural looking method than this. I don't hold breaks for DLs, particularly not in packet tricks because the spec can sometimes catch them. Just work on getting a "feel" for 2 or 3 cards. Practice is the best advice I can give.
