Last April I went to see a show here in Iceland. It's a 22 year old american performer, Curtis Adams that was the sole star of the show and he had quite a different approach than many magicians I've seen before.
Here is a littlebit about him:
He's from California USA and began at the age of 6 displaying a love for performing by mimicking and doing impressions of his favorite music videos on TV. That year during the Huntington Harbor's Annual Boat Parade of lights, Curtis, shocking everyone, went out on the family dock and started performing for all the boats passing by. He generated overwhelming cheers and a few harbor traffic jams.
At the age of 7 he went with his dad to see his first performance of David Coperfield and the very next day his dad bought him his first magic kit. Curtis spent all his free time practicing and by the age of 10 he was performing at local birthday parties and charity events. At 11 he added performing at restaurants and corporate functions and by the age of 13 he opened his first production company. He produced small local events as well as his own show. He soon became one of the youngest illusionists to perform in casinos all over northern Nevada, including The Reno Hilton, The Eldorado and John Ascuaga's Nugget.
While performing at the Cache Creek Indian Casino at the age of 16, he answered an ad placecd in newspapers all over the world, for an international talent search seeking out younge, new, up and coming magicians. The contest was called "The Young Magicians Showcase" produced by Lance Burton and Fox. A month later he got selected to appear in the showcase.
His show was very entertaining and very varid. He mixed illusions, magic, dance and visual art in a positive way. He appeared between 2 big dark screens, did some dance moves, then the screens lit up and they turned out to be screens for a video projector. He put his arm behind one of them, and his arm was visible in the frame (not the shadow of his arm). He walked behind one of them and appeared on the screen. He jumped "out" and went into the other one. Then he appeared on both screens, plus himself inbetween, in full sync with the 2 Curtis's on the screens. He threw his hat to the right and it "landed" on the Curtis that was on that screen... and so on. Very well made and realistic.
Some of the magic tricks he did involved mindreading, flash paper, sleight of hand, escape artistry and metamorphosis.
Here you can see a videoclip from his shows.
