US Elections

Postby johntheblob » Nov 8th, '06, 08:46

Well, I know that there is a perdominance of folks outside the US here, but I wanted to post this being a resident of the US.

Last night there was an enormous change in government. Democrats, (the party opposed to Bush) took control of one part of our congress, and may take control of the other half of congress as well. It sort of works like the House of Lords and House of Commons. We have a Senate (lords) and a House of Representatives (commons.)

This is an oversimplification oobviously, but o well!

I'm just excited to see the Democrats finally take control back.

Well, this was an interesting night! After years of running roughshod over the rights of the electorate, using fear and death as political tools, and even trying to pervert science to their own bizarre ends, Bush and his lot have finally had the first of the many smacks in the mouth they deserve. Couldn't have happened to a nicer weasel.

This morning's news referred to George Dubbya as a Lame Duck President. I think that's rather unfair to lame ducks  !

While I don't share John's excitement in the least, especially considering the re-election of NY's "favorite" carpetbagger, congrats to all the Democrats who voted.

I won't get all political as it can lead to flame wars or the like... but, I at least voted.

I'll share in Johns excitement *off line.

I don't see why it would lead to flame wars, but ok.

I'd also like to congratulate Joe Lieberman on his victory.

Well, maybe (hopefully) it wouldn't. I guess my point was more: It seems like in a lot of chat boards I frequent, thread/posts on religious or political views can sometimes be taken out of context by others. Maybe it's just how things are worded or certain views that conflict with others beliefs? Just didn't want to see it here, if I had commented on "why" I voted the way I did... and someone opposed my view-that could lead to flames.. that's all I was saying.

There is only 1 seat still not called in the senate. Its 50/49 right now in favor of the Democrats. The currently debated race is currently led by the Democrat, so lets see how it ends up.

Hillary C gets becomes the first female US president in 2008. She, Selina Scott, Lorraine Kelly and I take a hot tub together and the rest you can work out for yourself...
