Banning a member

Postby trickyricky » Nov 8th, '06, 23:53

Well, not really a member. If a person registers with the forums, and contributes nothing to the conversations, i do not class this person as a member of TM, as im sure many of you agree. But if this person then PM's you asking for exposure on a trick, can we report them to get them permanently banned? Or do we have to just grin and ignore them?

P.S. Sorry if i seem a bit abrupt or edgy! Its just since winning this contest, my inbox has been flooded with requests for exposure or, as i mentioned in my review thread, other requests from people that ive never spoken to once, or havent even participated in the forums!

If people register and do nothing more then that's probably their choice - many are just checking out and may post at a future date. However if someone registers and seeks secrets by PM whether they've made hundreds of posts or non at all them it's a breach of Forum protocol and a ban would be seriously considered. We'd need to have full details of course so the Mods could discuss the situation properly. In recent months 4 members have been elbowed for spamming and asking for secrets and a further 5 were cautioned. 3 of those 5 became very argumentative and insulting so were banned as well  !

We like to give the benefit of the doubt as it's understandable that natural curiosity will be involved - that's how we develop and mature as magicians and human beings but there's a big difference between enthusiasm and just asking how something's done. Be assured that the Ban button is a fearsome and wicked instrument which is kept well oiled and ready for action.

Thanks Mandrake! Good to know! I'll see how things go with these individuals and try to turn them around in their wicked ways before i report them!
