There are different lectures, shows and demos plus lots on sale all three days. It's long hard slog to cram as much in as possible but I reckon it's worth doing all three days.

Was really intertested in this but it's the same weekend as the wedding gig I'm doing. I might be able to make it up there for the Friday and get back down here in time for the wedding on the Saturday afternoon.

you do need to take your time off for this one! i'll only be missing 2 days worth of lectures i think, i might even be able to bring it down to missing just one day.
ooooo, excitement! and now I'm happy i found a B&B for about £17 a night that's a short stagger away from the convention. now i just need to get there!

Sore point Tony.
Last year I thought I'd been good and restrained in my spending.
When added up, it still amounted to over £100!
And that was just tricks/books/videos.

You could easily spend much more than that without thinking.

Prob worth pointing out the the overseas vendors don't really like cheques/credit cards.
They prefer cash.

Also, there are a lot of banks and cash machines within a couple minutes walk of the venue.

I too lived in Blackpool and attended the Convention on many occasions - also helping with the organisation whilst a member of Blackpool Magicians Club.

It really is the highlight of the year as far as I am concerned.

For any of you guys wanting hotels. then use the internet and look for the following roads.

Albert Road - Charnley Road - Coronation St - Hornby Road - Reads Ave - Vance Rd - Hull Road.

All within a minutes walk of the Winter Gardens.

As for eating - loads nearby - opposite the main Church st entrance of The Winter Gardens on the left is West Coast Rock, an American style diner. Just beyond is Birley St where you can find loads of good cafes.

If you are going - ENJOY !! I cannot make it but would love to be there to meet old friends (and new)

Hi, this is my first posting here and I will soon introduce myself to let you know what I am doing.

I am also very excited to be in Blackpool for the first time. A magic friend of mine told me that I have to come. One question: Do you know if the magic dealers only accept British Pounds or do the also accept Euro? As I come from Germany I have to see how much I should change but as you all know when you go to a convention: most time you need some more bucks. ;-)

Good question! Many will take credit card payment but I would imagine that any cash purchases would need to be in £ Sterling. There are cash machines near the Winter Gardens so if you bring your ATM card you should be able to get Sterling locally.

PS Welcome to TalkMagic :D !

Hi guys,

I'll be going again this year - can't wait!

Something I've been wondering about - the Close Up Shows - is that part of the Gala show this year - a new format with screens or will this be an additional element? Will the Gala show contain the same mix as last year (illusionists / novelty acts / comedy magic...)

Cheers,

The close up stuff is usually in the Horseshoe and I haven't heard of any changes in that respect although there are exclusive additional close up shows/features for those who bought the VIP tickets. I would imagine that the Gala shows will be the usual mix of acts as previous years.
