Am I better off with the DVD?

Postby Maney » Nov 11th, '06, 00:36

A few weeks/months ago I bought the royal road to card magic in the hope of starting out with a few tricks so I can well...show off (isn't that what magicians do by nature?).

The thing is, being left handed and quite a "monkey see monkey do" sort of person (more visual), I have trouble visualising quite what the book wants me to do :D I've been soldiering on though (albiet not getting so far :P ) until recently I found you could get it in DVD form.

Is the DVD of it good? Worth my while getting? I've been browsing around and there seem to be a few versions (2-3 on ebay, 1 on amazon I think, etc). I guess they aren't all official ones? Presuming one is indeed worth buying, which one would it be?

The one by R. Paul Wilson gets the best reviews. i have not seen the others but I have this one myself and it is well presented.

Not all magicians.

But yeah, a lot of them.

:)

Sorry, I am a Card College man (to the extent that I do card work at all), so I can't actually help with your question.

Is the DVD of it good? Worth my while getting? YES :!:

I do not own the book only the dvds and would highly recommend buying them to work alongside with the book.

The dvd i own is the paul wilson version, although inatially an expensive purchase, money well spent.

Im sure you can find more extensive reviews on this if you do a search.

I have the rrtcm book and dvd set (five disc)

I bought the P wilson 5 dvd set as in previous threads this has had a unanimous vote for being the best

The video is clear and persise and in my opinion it would be easy to look at the tricks and adapt them for a lefty, lots of differing camera angles used etc.

I wish you well

If you are going to buy a DVD I would suggest Born to Perform by Oz Pearlman. Not only does it cover the essentuals, it also is cheaper than the RRTCM DVD.

Does it contain as much content (the RRTCM DVD appeals to me because of the sheer volume of stuff it has, you can seemingly go from nothing to being very nimble with a deck of cards with one DVD set).

Been looking at the DVD, and it seems to go over the basics and some advanced stuff. Should be exactly what I need to get over that initial wall, after that picking tricks up from a book should be easier :D

Just backing up everyone elses comments id reccomend the R Paul Wilsons version but i would strongly avoid staying away from the other ones just because of some of the reviews ive seen. I am also left handed but i just get the left hand in my head and everytime the word right hand comes up i just read it as left hand and vica versa.
