I'm starting to "practice" lucid dreaming which should help me get more magic practice in along with other things. Sounds pretty hard but I love challenges and this one seems worth it...I just need to start going to be hours earlier and setting my alarm clock...

http://www.dreamviews.com

Basically when lucid dreaming you are aware that you are dreaming while you are dreaming, allowing you to take control of the dream letting you do whatever you want to do. Along with crazy things you can experience such as flying, shared dreaming, and astral projection, you can also practice your magic, figure out something that has been troubling you at work and suposedly you can "slow down time" and make a 2 hour lucid dream feel like days (imagine getting days worth of practice in 2 hours of sleep)...sounds pretty crazy, but if there are some many people claiming to experience it, it is worth a try.

Sorry that this is a bit off topic but I did not want to start a new dreaming thread if we already had one started a few days ago.

~David

Edit: This is probably c*** (not the best) but a very experienced lucid dreamer claimed to have spent approximately 100 years in a lucid dream in 2 hours....

An ex-colleague of mine used to be plagued with vivid dreams in which he dreamed that he actually woke as normal and went about his daily life.

Uhh...I never thought about it that way  ...I'm having second thoughts on this...I will still give it a try once and hope that if I don't like it I can stop.

I don't have lucid dreams as such, but I'm very good at entering that trippy hypnogigic state before true sleep and staying there to get all the strange snippets of voices and scenes rushing by at random.

Mind you, I'm having a really bad attack of insomnia tonight. So bad, in fact, I've decided to get up and start the day - about 5 hours early!

A lot of people have some of their greatest ideas in the hypnagogic state. Charles Dickens, for one, as well as some scientists whose names escape now. I've never experienced any of those occurances - or don't recall having anyway - though I am quite aware often of my hypnopompic stage. It's a weird feeling, that transition from sleep to waking life.

i lucid dream, but only when i have a "naturally occuring" dream...

alot of fun...i personally don't believe that you can practice anything within it and develop any real/useable skillset though...just my opinion...

taking charge of your dreams is alot of fun though...like being a film director in some ways...

dunno if its related in anyway - but i've always slept very well, and can always wake up without feeling sluggish or needing time to 'wake-up' if you know what i mean...

Have you heard about the faded old Magician who dreamt he was giving his usual boring lecture at a magic club, and when he woke up, he was!

I get lucid dreams sometimes. I'm really boring though and normally just let myself roll with them.

I did speak to someone in Polish in one a few nights ago though, and then changed the colour of the car, changed the shape of the road, and then decided to just let the dream roll with it.

You wake up tired still if you spend all night controlling your dreams anyway

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I've had a few lecturers like that. Still, better than dreaming of sex and... oh dear.
