Sankey and criss angel, whatever next?

Postby rvoice100 » Nov 19th, '06, 13:33

sure most of you have heard, but for those who havent,

Sankey is now one of Angels 'creative consultants' cant see how this is going to work myself, so we will have to wait and see.

but its a bit like chalk and cheese to me,

what are your thoughts?

Either he's gone "avida dollars" or he needs the work. After the squeeze on the dealers' contracts that seemed to backfire on him, perhaps it's the latter.

Do the consultants actually do anything except give short interviews throughout the show about how what Criss is about to do is the most dangerous thing he's ever done etc?

They come up with, or collaborate on, the effects, too.

Sankey has, "the job of developing a minimum of 40 original magic concepts for the upcoming third season of MINDFREAK" (from his newsletter). Though what, precisely, a 'magic concept' is (the full, carefully laid out, method and presentation for an effect? a Post-it note with "Grow another ear, or something" written on it?) I can't say.

Exactly what makes you think this won't work? Regardless of the obvious difference in performance styles, I think the collaboration could yield incredible results.

As for Sankey needing money - since it was already well documented that Criss Angel contacted Sankey - perhaps it was professional respect that built the relationship (a clear indication of that could be Criss Angel performing Sankey's airtight on an episode of Mindfreak). Also, I don't think Sankey is hurting for work - especially since he has a show of his own, in Canada.

Misanthropy - Are you kidding me? Perhaps you might actually try taking a look at some of the work his creative consultants have done over the years. Read a few things and you'll easily see Banacheck and Luke Jermay's fingerprints all over Angel's mentalism work.

I stand corrected, in that case.

I think Sankey is briliiant but isnt he only interested in commercial effects, or so he claims. Unless he means by this that he only performs commercial effects.. He is very creative though so It wouldnt surprise me. Id say he had a ton of ideas that he just didnt go with for the sake his ''performance type'' wouldnt be suited to the idea. I imagine Criss has seen some of these ideas and realised its more suited to his ego, erm I mean ''persona'' and has dangled a rather large sized cheque in front of Sankey who WOOF WOOF jumped at the meaty bone!!

Them as people are a bit like chalk and cheese I agree but only in that

Sankey is Brilliant, creative, funny etc. Criss Angels a prat!! Simple as

This could be interesting.. I might actually watch a couple of Mindfreaks all the way through now!! God Criss bores me..>

I wouldn't expect Sankey to *need* the money exactly, but he certainly does sometimes seem fond of the stuff.

Have you seen the adverts for "Assassin's Pouch"? Apart from sounding obscene, its... well... er... it's a naff, dangly little bumbag... he must know. Which is even more disappointing

I know everyone here is British (or secretly wishes they were British) so the reaction is hard-wired into our very souls, but I have to say that I don't think there's anything intrinsically wrong with a person being paid lots of money. OK, if someone said, ‘I’ll give you a big pile of cash to strike the toes of small, orphan children with a hammer,’ then fewer than six people on this board would take up that offer: it’s doing something that’s innately immoral, just for the loot. But Sankey is being paid to invent magic and, quite apart from that not being evil, Sankey’s job - whether Angel is there or not - is inventing magic.

Is it the creating magic for Angel that’s the key that’s perceived to open the foul lock of a sinful door that leads to a staircase of moral horror? Well, you might say that not only is it not bad, but that Sankey is fine and worthy to be doing it. Perhaps he’ll march in there with completely new thinking - e.g. ‘Hey! Here’s an idea! Let’s not use stooges! No, wait - hear me out...’ - that’ll transform things and lead to loveliness and beauty. Possibly, birds will sing - it’s too early to tell. But, even if that’s not the case and Sankey knows it, you have to conclude: ‘So?’ Are we saying that, if we made our living (made our living, remember - this is how he feeds his family: and, from what I’ve seen, Canadians can’t half eat too) selling magical inventions, we’d be open to censure if we didn’t sell them to anyone unless we agreed with everything else the purchaser might have performed at some time? ‘I’m sorry, but before I can allow you to buy this three-card transposition I’ll need to examine your entire career to see if I agree with everything in it.’

It’s a purely personal opinion, but I’d be quite happy for the rest of the day if I heard that Angel had hit his head on a lintel when steeping out of the lavatory at a petrol station, but I have no problem at all with Sankey taking his lucre.

Don't take everything so seriously it was meant as a tongue in cheek comment. Of course I'm well aware of the consultants input on the show.
