Mark Wilsons Complete Course in Magic

Postby Johnny Wizz » Nov 20th, '06, 14:36

Didn't really know where to post this as it isn't a review as such.

I just wanted to say that I cannot understand how I have been a member here for almost 18 months and have only just got round to buying this book. It has always been up there with RRTCM as recommended reading for beginners but I only bought it a couple of weeks ago.

What a find! Trick after trick, all clearly explained with all the moves and sleights equally clearly explained.

Whilst many of the card sleights are now known to me the book gives a fresh insight and some alternative handlings. I think I have put 5 tricks in to my repertoire in as many days and I just love his reversed card from deck.

It has also enthused me in to taking up coin work again. I have Bobo but have struggled with it as a book. As a consequence I have only toyed on the fringes of coin work. Between Mark Wilson and the beautifally written section Derren Brown has produced in Tricks Of The mind I feel quite inspired.

There will be years of stuff for me in the Complete Course and I would just like to add my own endorsement to the many others that have been posted on this site.

If you are a newcomer just breaking in to magic, get this book. You will have enough magic to set you up and keep you going for years. There is no easy way in to magic but this book makes it as simple yet effective as it is possible to do.

I have four 'deluxe' hardbound (quite hard to get hold of) copies of this book left at NUMS... and it's on special offer at the moment!

I have to say, it's so good, I've kept one for myself.

It's an excellent book and the instructions are very clear and concise with lots of step by step diagrams.
Also, this book covers such a wide range of magic. Coins. cards, rope, mentalism, stage illusions. It's definitley worth having and there are bound to be a few things even veteran magicians will find useful.

The only difference I can tell is that the 'deluxe' version is simply the 'hardback' version. It's the '2002' edition, and is big and VERY nicely done.

I have a paperback version from donkeys ago, and all I will say is a book of this size with so much material is far better in hardback.

So, to clarify, I think that the 'deluxe' element simply refers to the hardback version, as the content seems the same as the paperback.

This was the first book that I bought and contained enough material for me to put together 3, 5 trickcard routines.

A truely brilliant book that I'd recomend that anyone starting in magic get. Also a load of stuff for the more exprienced of you.

Just recently got this book and i am very impressed with it. It is a very "physical" book, meaning i can only learn by following a trick explanation and then finally doing it through in full. Makes learning magic alot more fun and I'm sure it will come in handy for experienced magicians too. Packed full of tricks

Really like it :D

Just received mine this morning..... wow... what a lot of content!! I'm seriously looking forward to going through this book!!

It's fairly obvious from the title that there was alaways going to be something for everyone in this book and based on just a five minute skip thru so far it really is a must have book for anyone.... beginner, novice, semi-skilled or serious hobbyist...... if you can't find at least five tricks out of this book that you won't perform regularly then you really aren't into magic!!

I now only wonder how many tantrums and ruined packs of cards I'll got through now LOL!!

A very good book indeed, the card section alone is worth the price of the book. Some of the coin tricks are a bit iffy but that's probabaly more down to my poor coin handling skills than anything else.

Hello

The Mark Wilson book is an underated classic of magic, well illustrated and very easy to understand. I've had the hb version for years. It is probably my most referred to 'technical' magic books. When I am working on a new effect I often scan the pages for ideas on 'how to'.
