Spybot detects Firefox2 adware.

Postby Tigerfish » Nov 24th, '06, 18:56

Hi guys this is my first post and thread here and would like to back up what Jordan C has been saying.
I too have dowloaded FF2 from the Mozilla site and have run Spybot (The latest uptodate version) on a new laptop a few days back.
The scan picked up 4 adware items which Spybot consider potentially serious. When I clicked on the particular items on the Spybot report they all were listed as Firefox derived.

Whether these are false positives I don't know but they may well be similar to the Alexa / IE problems.

I am glad to see I'm not the only one who has found this problem.
In the mean time I'll stick with Opera! :D

the ones that won't go away are CASALEMEDIA and ADREVOLVER

have done spybot, adaware, and zone labs search and they come up as firefox related spyware but they won't go away permanently.....

Well, I just got an idea...and I'll quickly post it here before this gets locked and sinbinned.

Check your spybot settings, maybe one of FF's neccessary processes are detected by Spybot because you have your settings too high. I will run a scan right now and see what I get, but just putting this out here incase this gets locked (which also means that I typed this very fast and please excuse and spelling mistakes).

I think I'm winnning my battle....

I went into firefox and typed about:config

then in the filter address bar I typed network.cookie.cookiebehavior

I then changed the value to 1

This apparently blocks third party cookies.

I then uninstalled spyware blaster (available from javacoolsoftware) and reinstalled it enabling all protection for mozilla.....

Then I scanned with spybot and the items were removed.... they haven't come back since so fingers crossed!!!

Never worry, if the thread and the posts are relevant, reasonable and respectful, (Hey the 3 'R's!) then it won't be locked or binned  !
