Tricks for a Wallet ?

Postby darrenthomson » Nov 27th, '06, 01:41

Hi gang,

I am going to be doing some casual walkaround at a party soon and I want some tricks that will pack small and play big. For reasons that I will not go into here, I would like to be carrying nothing but my wallet for the evening. I'll have no jacket and only one pocket (for the wallet)..

Can anybody recommend good tricks that can be carried in a wallet (excluding "xxx to wallet" stuff - not really into this kind of effect, I kind of prefer Mentalism type effects).

I would like to try and be ready to perform up to six tricks, so far i've loaded the following into my everyday wallet :

- Heirloom
- Kioku
- Just Imagine (from Sankey's 22 blows to the head)

I'll probably carry "Eye to Eye" (Charles Gauchi) as well..

Any other ideas ??

Cheers,

D.

You could use your wallet to carry billets, then the sky's the limit as far as mentalism's concerned!

Memory feats such as the Amazing Memory Test.

If there will be napkins there and you have Mark Wilson's Complete Course they have an effect that I love, I forget its name but it is sort-of like a sucker torn and restored napkin where you pretend to teach them to do a torn and restored and then say... "But if the spectator sees that you still have the torn napkin in the other hand...." and then you throw the pieces that you were hiding onto the table only to have them come together. I can't really explain it too well and will look for it in a few minutes and then edit this post.

EDIT:

Well I just have to quote myself here,

I forget its name but it is sort-of like a sucker torn and restored napkin...

The Sucker Torn and Rstored Napkin can be found on page 305 and is one of the best impromptu sucker effects I know.

Sorry these are not wallet effects, but they can be "carried" on you at all times as you asked which is all you really need (knowledge of impromptu effects).

Edit #2: Also The Flying Match on page 309 is a classic.

I agree.

However, if one has not yet cultivated the necessary skills, there is always Free Will using business cards.

Thanks,

If you're looking for effects that can pack into your wallet, I highly recommend any (or all) of the following items. I know you said you prefer mentalism style presentations, but I think these deserve mention as far as your requirments go. They're all perfect for walkaround, and they all pack right into your wallet (and since they're all credit cards - they look perfectly normal in there).

James Ford's line:

No Credit - http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=2426 An examined credit card is displayed in right under the noses of your spectators, you wipe the numbers right off the card. The now blank card can be examined immediately.

Messy Business - http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=2427 Similar to No Credit except this time the card is shaken and all of the images and numbers tumble around on the card (Think the finale to Presto Printo with a credit card)

Credit Card Monte - http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=2425 - The old two card monte using a credit card and video card membership

Bet On It - http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=2428 - Examined credit card is offered as a prize if you can't find a selected card. Selection is made and lost into the deck. After being unable to find the card the magician asks the spectator to turn over the credit card (which you can have them hold if you like). The small pic of Abe Lincoln on the front is now holding the selection!

Bending Credit Card - http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=2429 - Self explanatory.

Menny Lindenfeld -

Safety Hole - http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=3172 - A Credit card is shown to have a hole right through the magnetic strip. The magician explains he can move the hole in order to use the card. With a quick shake the hole moves to the other side of the card, leaving the magnetic strip whole once more. With another shake the hole slides back over the strip. Explaining that sometimes this isn't enough security, the magician shakes the card one more time and now there are three holes through the magnetic stripe. The card can be handed out for immediate inspection. Basically, this is like Hollow with a credit card. Very cool effect.

Bite-off Credit Card - http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&key=3173 - Just like a coin bite.

Brad Manuel
Credit Card Fraud - http://www.magicbox.uk.com/shop.php/shop/magic-tricks/close-up-magic/credit-card-fraud/p_466.html - Borrow a credit card and watch their eyes go wide when you start to peel the magnetic stripe off of the card! After playing with it a bit you rub it back onto the card and immediately hand it back to them. This is a quick-hit effect but it hits HARD. Some of my favorite reactions have come from this little gem. Ever since getting this I have never left home without it.

So there you go. 8 effects that can pack right into your wallet. Yes there is some repetition (No Credit and Messy Business) so I would say get one or the other. However, you can't go wrong with any of them (I think). With a little thought, these can be given a "mental magic" (sorry Mr. Browning) air - dealing with false perception and the idea of controlling the spectators sense of sight and/or touch (pm me for ideas on how this can be done).

Just in case you're wondering - none of these effects require advanced sleight of hand skills, so from a technical standpoint they can go right into your act almost immediately.

Good luck to you.

The imp in me really wants to suggest getting Sankeys Assassin Pouch...lol

But I would recommend maybe holy Moley. Gets great reactions, really simple and it basically some washers. Packs small

Go on get an assassins pouch, you know you want too. It's rather fetching

Great suggestion.....I use this all the time and it is a great effect. I modified it to suit my personal needs, by drilling holes in some casino poker chips.......it gives me the same routine, but allows me to use objects that just seem more relavant to me!

I should be doing this, then: I can easily finish a trick and leave people thinking I'm not a magician.

But seeeeeeriously... that line might be key (I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but I think I'm on the right track). Thus, I was going to suggest '8 Card Brainwave' - a little envelope of eight cards would fit easily in a wallet. But the second you pull a little envelope of cards out your magician's flag is raised, isn't it? So, I'm assuming that you want things you're - 'This is a bit odd...' - already well into before anyone suspects you're not a Muggle. In that case, quite a few bill things spring to mind: Andrew Mayne's Infusion and/or Ghost Bills, or Misleading Mislead. Actually, with all of those you don't even need to carry a couple of bank notes around - you can used borrowed notes, so they take up no space at all. You'll have to borrow a pen for Misleading Mislead, but, once you've got it, you can follow up with that Mayne trick where you push it through your face (can't remember what it's called; possibly, 'Pushing a pen through your face.'). Depends on the audience, natch. In my small experience, young children are often bored and/or confused by many card tricks, but they all love you pushing a pen through your face.
