Hi all!
I found this messageboard a few days ago, and find it invaluable in cutting through the blurb attached to most magic products. Thanks to everyone for their opinions and insights!
I couldn't find a status code to fit me, so I made up my own - returning enthusiast. I was very keen on magic until my college years, when priorities changed. A decade and a half later, I'm rekindling my interest in the craft (possibly as a result of becoming a dad and wanting to bring up my little boy with a both sense of wonder and a grounding in lateral thinking), although my focus has changed dramatically since my younger years.
What grabs me now is the type of magic that appears to come from nowhere, using no obvious props other than objects you would ordinarily find in a kitchen, office, bar... wherever you happen to be. I think it was the 'showiness' or 'staginess' of my previous routines that initially put me off magic as an adolescent. I'm now seeing a movement towards minimalist magic, and it's getting me all excited again.
Seems I like my magic the way I linke my music - stripped to the bone.

I'm not sure where I'll take magic now that I've picked it up again. It might just be to mess with my little boy's head, or to keep my hands busy in the pub now that I'm an ex-smoker. But as a freelancer, there's nothing to stop me taking it forward to a job of sorts (nothing that is except talent and self-confidence).
Aside from all that, I'm a freelance video producer (you'll find my considerably out of date website at www.pcwells.com) and writer on all things digital video (my first two books can be found - and bought - at Amazon). I also run a music video production company, recording punk concerts and releasing DVDs worldwide - check out www.punkervision.net for more on that.
So that's me in a nutshell.
And this is a terribly long-winded way of saying
'Hi'.
