whats the trick called where..

Postby bananafish » Jun 27th, '03, 18:03

I was talking to someone today after having wowed them with a few card tricks :) and they asked if I could do a trick they had seen

basically the magician shows the backs of the cards to the spectator one at a time and asks them if they think it is black or red, they then put them into two piles depending on what the spectator says -

and when the spectator picks the cards up at the end they find they were correct.

Well, thats how I was told it went.

Any ideas what this is called - and if it is a gimmicked deck or just a straight card trick? (£50 says Seige 8) knows!)

This is the one that wowed Winston Churchill during WWII and I can't remember the darned name! It's in my books at home, honest! It uses a regular deck and involves a bit of a switch half way through but there are later versions with do away with this 'annoyance'. If nobody else answers in the next 2 or 3 hours, I'll get back to you!

Thanks Mandrake.

The Churchill story rings a bell, but I'm not sure I ever knew what the trick was.

OK, just closing down at work and will be on my weary way home in about 10 mins. Will try and log on again before 10pm tonight. Not that it's a long journey or anything, but I know She Who Must Be Obeyed needs a lift somewhere!

Sorry to be predictable - but this one is quite well known... it's done with a regular deck, and I'm not sure that it has one definitive name...

There's a beautiful version of it on the Devil's Picturebook - but considering it's a basic 'mathematical' separation routine, I'm sure I won't get in trouble if I share it with you...

In fact, I'll tell you a routine combining the best of this effect with a little twist a-la Lennart Green...

TO BE CONTINUED...

OK chappies... please hop on over to the MO area, and all is revealed...

I'm off to get stupidly intoxicated in a minute, if the taxi ever arrives...

The most commonly used name is 'Out Of This World', and once again Seige gets there first! I agree about the Devil's picturebook version, I don't do the standard one at all now.
