Cards held from on top in the right hand are said to be held in a ... grip - what is it called?
What type of solid balls are used in the "multiplying .... balls" routines?
The famous, traditional routine where a card continually jumps from the middle to the top is known as the ... card routine.
What item is passed along your hand in the 'muscle pass'?
What is Eugene's surname?

Alas, Abraxus, the damage is done... some pillock posted the answers to a total novice.

Why is this forum being abused and bastardised so much lately?

I think we need a 24 hour moderator to weed out the impurities, to be honest. This is becoming everso tedious.

weasels...

free-loading weasels...

shame you can't give permissions to trusted regular users to help tidy-up these kinda things...

Now that MIGHT just be an idea...

It's getting a bit stupid on here... the 'regulars' who make sensible contributions are getting restless with the freeloaders I'm sure, and the responsibility we have as Mods to keep our CONTRIBUTORS happy is getting above and beyond.

Perhaps we make the signup process harder?

yep im all for it...

the sign up could well be just a simpe automated e-form of some kind..

i still say restrict all new users to one or two sections for a short while, maybe even just a specially created area that just contains subjects like:

"books you should read"
"what not to ask"

that kinda thing, just for a trial period, the ones who really want to contribute and help will stick around, those that want things for nothing would hopefully just clear off... :?:

What irks me is that magical secrets aren't hard to acquire - if you're genuinely keen.

And by keen, I mean willing to invest time in research and money in books and resources.

Maybe I'm wrong, but anyone not willing to make that investment won't put in the time required to practice an effect and make it a worthwhile piece of magic, in which case any information they acquire will serve no purpose at all.

I truly believe that non-magicians get more enjoyment out of magic when they don't find out how it's done. Good magic tricks fire the imagination and stay with spectators for a very long time. The moment a secret is revealed, that immense effect become 'just another trick' to be forgotten.

If Benet had a genuine passion for magic, he'd be willing to start his education anywhere - even if it means going to a library and reading some books...

I agree that registration should be made not necessarily harder but more thorough. So that it's not just a quick one minute job.

There are two things I don't get - one, why Benet doesn't seem to read the rules and two, usually if a page is protected and you can't answer the questions then it probably means you're simply not ready for the material within - so why bother asking?

For example, I am very sure that the Eugene question is from Derren's website, and his material is definitely not stuff someone who's only been involved in magic for a short period of time should attempt.

Really most of those questions are things that anyone who has even looked around these forums properly should know the answer to.

Although I am all for the free sharing of ideas and thoughts about magic as long as you are not exposing sleights or other peoples hard work I must admit that the lines you guys are talking along seem like great ideas.

Although I've not been on here as long as some I have passed the point of even being amused by the people who come on to find out "How a trick my mate did" was done or the classic "I've not much money so please could you tell me how ........"
So maybe it is a good idea for the sanity of the regulars on here and for the health of the forum in general that the scheme you guys are proposing is put into place.
This is of course if the odd c*** (not the best) thread I've started is forgotten and forgiven.
It's a pity we can't find out where these people live so we can contruct a list, take some time off work and go beat them with sticks

when i joined in the humble beginings before the mists of time wiped away the forum we had to answer a a card question which i could not answer being a kids entertainer so i had to reply i had no idea but as a kids entertainer if the'd like to ask me a kids related question i'd be happy to answer it.
needless to say i got in on my merits if not my knowledge and that was for the mages only section.

i think an auto e-mail explaining the rules and an acceptance of the rules when you sign up would not be to demanding on the system, it would prevent people claiming ignorance of the rules and is no more harsh than any other end user licence from most other sites.

or why not place a restriction on posting till you have ticked the check box to say you have read the rules in the profile section.

Ditto. I'm at the computer working pretty much all the time I'm not asleep or in the pub, which is on a predictable basis. I have TM running in a tab to dip into anyway, so...

By the way, has anyone seen Mandrake? He's not picked up his PMs since Friday night...
