Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Today, I'm mostly pulling hair out.

My BS is loud and my pull away looks odd.

My return after CPm looks obvious.

My CPs looks over cocked.

This is where a DVD of the RRTCM would be really useful. For all the top tips and stuff within it, it's not always super obvious what they're talking about.

Do the BS slow, no need to rush it.. press down with your thumb and just come away naturally.

Practice doing it without the BS, so you know how you would do it naturally, then incorporate the BS into it at the natural speed. Your spec wont notice anything. You kind of have good cover from your right hand doing the BS and the left fingers

P.S any moves will be obvious to you, because you know!! A speccy does not know what you are doing.

Acting natural takes practice.. again with CP, do any moves without actually doing the move and you will get a feel for what its ''supposed to look like''

I.D. is right about the noise issue and taking it slow. People won't notice any noise, and by the time they do its all over anyway. This is not to say that you should not try to make it as silent as possible. It will come with practise, once you are over 50% of the bs loosen the thumb grip a bit more, think about what pressure on the card makes the click.
I thought mine was very loud as the book warns you about the sound. Then I realised this was beacause the book had made me overly aware of it, which is a good thing I guess. But I use the RF all the time which is the BS and no one has ever noticed sound wise.
Have PM'ed you on your second point to avoid exposure.

I must be doing something very wrong. I've got no thumb to press with. My left thumb is along the pack and my right is hold the book open. Am I missing something?

I totally agree with practicing without sleight. I do it with all my video practices. First I do it without, then twice with then once without and play back and then maybe twice more, etc.

I'm actually practicing it as a F; you know, riffle, cut, BS. The motion of coming away without the sleight is so vertical. The covered version looks too twisted.

I just tried it slow and it improved no end. I was trying to mimmick it without, but it's not happening. I think a little "chat" mid cut will allow for the slowness.

I get what you mean about the thumb. By loosening it, you use it to almost pull the punch of card. I'll work on it.

Thanks also for the PM. It's return mid air I'm worried about though. Practice practice practice. As you said, LC (in BS section) is a good intro to the CP, given the place where it's done.

I've always found that confidence comes with succesful performance.

Totally off the subject, but all these initials remind me of a Robin Williams quote, so I'd thought I'd share:

"Excuse me sir, but, seeing as the VP is such a VIP, shouldn't we put the PC on the QT? 'Cause if it leaks to the VC, he could end up MIA and then we'd all be put on KP." - Good Morning Vietnam

I'm sure I know what BS stands for, but if you take it out of context and use the initials for a curse word, your posts become rather funny:

My BS is loud and my pull away looks odd.

Do the BS slow, no need to rush it.

You know, riffle, cut, BS...I think a little "chat" mid cut will allow for the slowness

No offense intended, just had a good laugh.
