Mirror Mirror on the wall

Postby totalmagic » Dec 6th, '06, 23:01

I have noticed that if I practice in front of a mirror to long that I will become dependent on the mirror. So I would suggest to practice it in front of a video camra. Because you can see how you did and people tend to look up at the camera. But make sure to delet the video of your practices so no one else gets ahold of them

I've had a similar problem. I tend to blink right when the sleight or secret move happens, and so never see it in the mirror. Not sure why I do this. But for the longest time I would think "Wow! My pass is undetectable!" Until my brother filmed my performance. I was flashing like wildfire.

I concur with recording yourself. This way gives you a much better representation of what the audience will see. What I would recommend is to the do the same effect at least twice in a row, then watch them both and see what worked in both, and what failed in both. This will help you to see what you are doing wrong and what you sometimes do wrong.

At least, that's what helps me.

one very good tip I got off a friend was to practice in front of a poster, treating them as you would a spec, talk to the poster and work on keeping eye contact.

I always use a video camera instead of a mirror. I find that with a mirror you're constantly adjusting your angles because you've got instant feedback.

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Hey, if I use a poster of "Demolition Man", can I tell people that I've performed tricks for Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes? That would be cool.

My celeb magic performances usually feature Robbie Williams in the audience.

I dont actually practice in front of anything..

I dont like mirrors ( being ugly and all  ), really cant be bothered with videotaping it ( being lazy and all ) and Im not allowed to practice in front of a poster ( being married at all ) the wife thinks I neglect her for Magic so I cant practice in front of her, and every time I try to practice in front of Jay Sankey he just ignores me and carries on talking

So I tend to play with myself.. er, I mean practice on myself.. erm, I mean practice my magic alone.. while watching TV and the first I ''see'' myself is to a live audience... which technically I shouldnt do... but it works for me and and I have had no problems yet

But I dont suggest anyone else goes about it this way.. I practice HARD moves in front of a small mirror sometimes.. like the pass.. a mirror where I can only see my hands.. I never show my face..

Im a right minger!!

abraxus said "bag over their head". Not "plastic bag over my head and taped around my neck, not allowing any air to get in." Penn & Teller did a trick like that once, though not sure where or when...
