DB Tour 2007

Saw the Derren Brown tour on Sunday in Blackpool for the opening night. Don't want to give too much away and spoil the fun and surprises, and the show is more than likely to change as the show progresses but some of the highlights:

In the first half:

Interesting intro (as would be expected!)
Audience member given the choice of whether a box contains £500 or £5000 and if they get it right they can keep it
Multiple person 20 questions
A nice audience 'sucker'esque routine followed by the audience member reading the minds of some other spectators
A mind manipulation over the phone to a friend of someone picked from the audience

In the second half:
10 people doing an ideomotor suggestion experiment, nicely selecting people for
'Psychic' table moving demo and then
Brilliant floating table routine
Then the main part of the second half is taken up with what appears on the face of it to be essentially a lengthy billet test with sealed envelopes from the audience (though the combinations of techniques he must be using are mind blowing!) and, whilst fully blindfolded, extended into blind reading of objects and drawings in the audience.
All wrapped up with a nice sealed prediction finale and a sequence of climaxes that just get better and better

I'm sure there are a number of other sections that have been lost in the grey matter along the way, but it really was a stunningly entertaining and amazing evening. Made all the better incidentally by being sat next to Greg Wilson at the back of the stalls - much interesting conversation to be had there!

I would thoroughly reccomend this show to anyone, magician or lay, and would appeal to anyone who does go to just sit back and let everything wash over them - save the analysis until afterwards no matter how much you think you know what he's doing! This act is about as perfect as it gets - forget the clever trickery that you know and just be dazzled at how slick and effortless Derren makes it look!

I went on the Lowry Theatre web site last night and they had only 3 tickets left for the Thursday show and none for the other dates. I tried to book 2 but wouldn't let me so had to buy the last 3

Should be a good night, I'll try and drop a note on it after I've been

Saw it in birmingham yesterday. Needless to say it's brilliant and worth going to see.
The bit with the gorilla before the interval is pure genius.

As an added bonus, guess who I bumped into (followed for 10 minutes and then ran up and asked if it was)...... Andy Nyman.

Although the programme doesn't say he tours with Derren, he was in the lobby and later at the stage door. We had a quick chat and I got an autograph. According to him; 'Derren and I are very proud of this' and 'the set we've gone for is a more '30s thing, with lots of mind-reading effects'.

This is certainly one not to be missed - get your tickets while you still can(ebay if necessary)!

Could the mods please tell me if I could scan and post the front cover of the programme please?

You will find Andy's name linked with Derren's productions a lot. They might even be related..... :?

He was at Birmingham last night but those who go along to different venues shouldn't expect to see him at all the shows.

Has anyone ever seen Nyman and Nick Frost in the same room at the same time

I've seen both, but not together. They're quite similar, but not identical and Nyman isn't quite as fat.

PS: for the Derren nerds, he was wearing a baseball cap and t shirt at the stage door. With sunglasses on his shirt which I was severely tempted to try and nick, but I didn't.

DB Tour

Postby Paradoxism » May 2nd, '07, 23:20

Andy Nyman was also at Blackpool on the opening night (unsurprisingly as I believe he co-wrote this tour as he has done with many other Derren shows), making notes whilst sat in the row in front of me at the end of the aisle. He added greatly to the dramatic climax of the 'oracle act' when he ran out at just the right point!

Those who have now seen the tour - any highlights / critiques from what went on (avoiding spoilers of course!)?

Would be interesting to try and get a feel of what changes and evolves as the tour goes on.

Paradoxism has distilled the essence of the show very well and, as far as I can remember, hasn't missed any aspects out! We were there last night and two of the folks with us had never seen Derren live before but they were very impressed and entertained. Mrs. M, who is by now a veteran of these shows, said it was the best of the three she's seen and that's high praise indeed. The final reveal wasn't quite as high tech as previous show but was still a big (and long!) finish, even to the extent of one or two items being 'wrong' but not that far off. There were a few in-jokes, one was during the spiel about Conan Doyle being fooled by a fake psychic with a table floating routine where it was mentioned that the psychic lived in Losander Road, London. Nuff Sed  !

Once again Derren & Co have come up with a superb evening of entrainment and even if you spot a couple of old favourite tricks being used they're given the DB treatment big time and I for one am very eagerly awaiting news of the 2009 Tour!

I got his autograph at the stage door. As you can imagine, the Derren Brown Fan Forum will be going mental now that they tour's started so drop by if you get time.

Did Nyman run out right at the end when Derren does you know what? hahaha

Due to the luck of where i had parked i reaslised there were about a dozen people waiting for him, so, of course, i joined the queue, i got my ticket, the program, a piece of A4 Card that had the words 'Shot Glass' written on it, and also the Ace of spades from one of my Masters decks, all signed...

gdi, he WAS close with 'Glass'
