Reminds me of a Woody Allen joke:

Foreplay, noun. Four hours of begging.

The circumcision in David Reimer's case was for medical reasons rather than for religious or cultural beliefs. His twin brother had the same problem but his operation went well.

What is taboo in one culture is not necessarily taboo in another. For instance, when they dug up a prehistoric man in Austria there were debates on whether or not his penis should be covered up. Some people argued that it was beneath his human dignity to have his penis on display. Others, objected that his human dignity may have already been imposed upon. It is impossible to know what body parts were sacred in his culture. Were he alive, he may have taken great offence that the back of his neck was touched, and seen, etc.
