Can any magicians out there please tell me the name of the vanish used in david copperfield 'grandpa's acces' routine?

The 2nd ace that vanished from his hand looks so impossible - and the only thing that I have see that looks remotely similar is a wink change.

uh sorry dude these forums are not to expose or to figure out professional routines. On the hand we can tell you where you can buy an effect that is close to what you saw in the video. On your question that you are asking I have no idea how to answer it.

However, I was not asking for an explanation just the name of the vanish - so that I may do my own research - books, videos etc.

I own macdonald's aces - but this is not nearly as clever as what I saw.

also - is there such a thing as 'thin' cards - be it bicycle or any other brand? I think you might know why I am asking this - the reveal

The vanish looks good but Copperfield seems to use his own adaptations. Example, the production of the aces is his variation on the shotgun aces.

It's one of my personal favorites

You can get thin cards but they not be them in the copperfield video your barking up the wrong tree there.

www.cards4magic.co.uk do various spcial cards and I'm sure I've seen thin cards advertised although they may be specials for manipulations. Check the site out and e-mail Clive there to ask if he knows and/or can get any for you.

Both the opening sequence of aces appearing, and the vanishes are all found on Jeff McBride - Art of Card Manipulation........

He does not reference them to the trick, but he does teach the flourish/sleights and they are obviously the ones used in the Copperfield routine

I love this routine......you can however, adapt MacDonalds aces to essentially turn into this routine....all but the final sequence where they appear under the lone ace

PM....if I can be of some assistance (not exposure mind you) but with any suggestions for you and making this routine happen.

Well, I was there at Ceasar's Palace the night David performed this routine for the first time on a live audience and was sitting with the man that taught him the handling (Paul Gertner) e.g. if you really want to learn about it, I'd check out some of Pauls books and videos, I'm certain you'll find all the pieces to the puzzle...


BTW... David was scared stiff about doing this routine... proof that he really is human and gets the jitters just like the rest of us when trying out something new.

Is ultimate Ace assembly by Oz Pearlman not pretty much identical to this trick?...apart from the shotgun ace sequence at the start?..

I'm no authority but its at least the same effect...If so you can purchase the ultimate ace assembly and the shotgun ace routine from penguin magic...which are both taught by the fantastic Oz Pearlman (current Westchester marathon champion and record holder no less)..

There are many ace effects that look very similar....Ultimate ace assembly, MacDonald's $100 - 4 ace trick, etc...and the list goes on. They all have their own little nuances that set them apart from one another....I do think that to the layperson however....the impression they would get from them all would be much the same, only hte magician would remember the differences!

I must say....that doing MacDonalds aces, the ulitmate ace assembly, and the Copperfield effect (the one this post was originally about)....the Copperfield one is the least useful in a basic setting....you will get far more mileage out of Ultimate ace assembly (and in some settings MacDonald's aces) than you will the Copperfield version....it is much more stunning in its presentation - YES - but I don't find that the overall effect leaves any better of an impression than the other two mentioned.....in most cases I would say that it is not worth the time and effort put into polishing the method!

Great statement.......it emphasizes what I was saying....the impression left on the layperson is identical, especially when the are trying to explain it to others.....they could be talking about completely different effects, but certain they are talking about the same one because the impression is the same
