It is about time I did one of these....Been on this site for ages!
My name's Robert...I'm 20 from Glasgow...Been doing magic since I was 17...Found myself in Borders books with 7 quid to my name...Saw Nicholas Einhorns Encyclopedia of Magic for a fiver... Thought why not?... And off i went...
Learned the basics from that then bought Mark Wilsons bible, admittedly skimmed it when i first got it, but have since begun to re-invest some time in it...Excellent book...Then started practicing with my good friend Stefan doing magic in the street to anyone that would let us show them a trick...
Dabbled on and off since then til about a year ago when I started really trying to expand my repetoire...Mostly cards, little bit of coins, but these days I'm trying to develop a great sponge routine, learn other disciplines and become a genuine all rounder....
Done a few shows for work colleagues on team building days and that but nothing major...have thought about it a lot lately and think that maybe next year and after commiting a few more tricks to memory I could have what it takes to take my magic to the next level and maybe start working somewhere...
Idols and influences in magic are a real mixed bag of styles...of course the usual suspects of Daniels, Sankey, Vernon, Ammar, Sadowitz and of course (with me coming from Glasgow) Walton are in there... But some other magicians that I really look up to and admire are : Oz Pearlman, Paul Wilson, Greg Wilson, Dominic Wood and Richard Sanders among many others...
For some reason which I cannot pinpoint I find myself especially in awe of Guy Hollingworth. I find his style, tone and demeanour just perfectly suited to magic and to me he represents the classic meaning of the term magician...given, what I have actually seen of Hollingworth is very limited, but what I did see I liked a lot and it has made a lasting impression in my mind....Which I think is even more tribute to the man's genius...
Anyway thats my story I guess...Take from it what you will.
In closing thanks for any help people offer to me on here, it is much appreciated and I promise to try and help out as much as i can with my very limited knowledge of the craft...
Thanks again and be seeing you !
