The One Handed Fan? I know it wouldn't be exposure, but if you don't know how to do it then clearly you haven't got any books or such with it in - and seeing as how it's in most beginners card magic books, buying something like Mark Wilson or RRTCM would be a good option :D.

One handed fans, are taught in the classic magic books, Royal road to card magic and Mark Wilsons complete course in magic. Allthough these arent the only books to feature them.

There is a Million and one Dvds out there with how to do it too,

Jeff Mcbride art of card manipulation
Show off with cards
Xtreme Beginiers

to name but a few. It will be easyer for you to learn from one of these sources rather then some one posting a very long post on the subject, what with the books having illustrations and the likes.

Rookie mistake, you will find that when you ask a question that is "how do i do that" we will point you in the way of a good book or Dvd you may feel its a tad nit picking of us as its not a trick but a flourish has you pointed out but we will help where we can but some times private study with a book is the best way.

As Mr Tipton says " Books are best"...

Im practicing the one-handed fan, as taught by Jerry Cestowski on XB.

He's a good teacher but it is a hard move. I can't do it yet but I'm hoping to get it down soon.

Here's a little tip - practice a one handed fan close, although its a different move, it makes learning the one handed fan much easier.

If I was you I would get a DVD aswell as the book, because learning a move like this is easier when someone is actually showing you on a video. I would recommend the XB DVD, I got it ages ago, and I'm still learning it all.

Use half the pack. That sounds piffling, but it made a difference to me. I thought I was utterly, utterly rubbish because I couldn't get a satisfying spread, then someone (someone like Jeff McBride) said, 'Just use half the pack. Most magicians use only half the pack, generally - perhaps fanning the other half in the other hand.'

Bang. Easy.

Just to Clarify for Magic tom..

Jerry on XB teaches the reverse one handed fan.. this is a killer hard move at first. The one handed fan is easy but isnt to pretty compared to the reverse one handed fan on XB

I think Jerry is great at teaching fans... but I couldnt get the reverse one handed fan down until I got Card College. For some reason the short description and tips in that book helped me get it down real fast. I can now do a pretty good one handed reverse fan.

The normal one handed fan as taught in RRTCM and ellusionist DVDs is not that good looking compared to the reverse one.

XB teaches them really well and so does Card College.

Fans are all about the grip. The wrong grip and its goodnight fan! Im by no means brilliant at them. But every time I buy a brick of cards.. I sacrifice one deck just for fans.. soon to invest in fanning powder to see if that helps any further.

The pressure fan is the only one I struggle with and I dont like it anyay, it bends up my cards !!

Thanks for the idea of half the deck in each hand! Maybe I can actually learn to do that!
I have studied the books--but my hand wants to be stiff and not fan the cards all the way out. Hmmm . . . half the deck--yep, that's a real idea!
