Purchase of the Year 2006

Postby Charles Calthrop » Dec 19th, '06, 13:37

What is the absolute best (magic related) thing you've bought this year and why? Keep it disciplined; one item only! No rambling off into comparative lists, no need for full reviews, just a shout to the most deserving item that ended up on your credit card bill this year.

For me it's The Complete Walton Volume 1. I so wish I'd bought this book sooner. It's full of brilliant, entertaining card magic with engaging presentations. It's a culture-shock for the Ellusionist crowd for sure, with few and functional illustrations and stuff to actually read, but for anyone prepared to spend a little time with this book there is a ton of real treasures to cure your download addiction.

Highlights for me: Oil & Queens, The Smiling Mule, Another Fine Mess, The Overworked Card, Impact and the Trigger material. I've had it a while and I still keep discovering things. Now I understand why top card-workers mention Roy Walton with respect bordering on reverence. If you do cards then add this to your library. The word 'classic' is sometimes bandied about a bit too freely, but this is a true classic

Looking forward to spending next year with volume 2...

Well for me it's got to be the book which got me back into magic after a 4 year lay off.

Despite having bought a lot of wonderful things this year, I'm going to have to go with the encyclopedia. Everything from the classic to the purely psychological. 500 of them in total, with plenty of notes and ideas.

Since I'm a newbie and almost everything I bought was in 2006 the decision appears pretty difficult at first. On second thought though...

The one for me that was most value for money was Indecent because of what i got with it! But the best magical value item i got i think was Art of Astonishment Book 1! Getting the others soon hopefully!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

 June.. however, my wonderful raven does one thing brilliantly..

If anyone slated Third degree burn Id stick up for it as much!! I have this great handling where I really burn my fingers so that the blistes stay after the 'reveal' dissapears!!

And for what you get with RRTCM and Mark Wlisons course, they have ot be there.

Add Raven to my package boss!!!
