Contact Juggling

Postby supermagictom » Dec 20th, '06, 08:50

This looks pretty interesting, anyone have any expereince in this? I want to know more about it before I buy it. It looks really cool anyway. Could maybe use it to enhance a magic routine?

Worth getting into? (I've got plenty of spare time)

I hope this is the right section for this kind of thing....

I have Contact by Tyas Frantz.
" A DVD beginners Guide to Contact Juggling "
Are you buying this as a nice addition to your Magic ?
Something to do whilst table hopping ?
This is a very very bloody hard thing to do.
also the decent looking balls they use are quite pricey.
I would search the web for a contact juggling site that shows you the basics such as the cradle ( a few website have movie tutorials to D/L)
See what you think before spending cash.
I bought my DVD on pure C.U.P.S power. Wish I'd looked around first

I love contact juggling. I nearly gave up magic to do contact juggling. Now the basics can be learnt quickly but the finer points take hours of study. I think its worth it to learn for enteraining your self and other people and its a great form of meditation.

www.oodballs.co.uk have a load of stuff on it practice balls they arent the pretty crystal balls but they have a "tacky" surface alowing the ball to cling to your hand

www.contactjuggling.org has a laod of tutorials.

I think though for true study you buy Earnest James Contact juggling book. Avliable at the website above, it is considerd the bible of contact and covers other juggling skills too.

Of course you can incorperate it in to magic think zombie with out the cloth and all that.

I am a bit narked that the magic comunity have picked up on this i wanted to keep contact juggling all to me.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

I've always fancied giving this a go but never really known where or how to get started. I think it'd be a great crowd puller for doing magic on the street.

being a contact juggler and a magician i am now writing an article about contact juggling, for submission to a magic magazine (no prizes for guessing which one).
any opinions, ideas, views... let me know, i've got it all lined up in my head but i'd like some magicians opinions other than my own maybe.
and pictures, i need pictures (with permission to use them of course)

The Visual Encyclopedia of Contact Juggling

Postby Matthew Olsen » Dec 28th, '06, 21:39

Hello, I'm the author of the Visual Encyclopedia of Contact Juggling, and I would like to clarify something regarding the link to the video clip mentioned above. First of all the segment shown was misrepresenative of the content of the videos, as I was not demonstrating technique, but explaining practicing moves in progressive stages, and working both hands evenly.
I also don't appreciate lawrence's critical coments considering that he has obviously never seen more than this clip, and has decided to condemn me for a clip that wasn't even about technique.
I have been Contact Juggling for over 14 years now, and I was approached by Bob Kholer regarding making these videos. I designed these videos to be the most comprehensive instruction on contact juggling on the market. Over the course of the 4 volumes, over 150 tricks and moves are taught in detail. Each volume is almost two hours long, and each were designed so that both beginners and Experienced Contact Jugglers could get something out of it. The entire series was filmed over the course of six days, with most of the clips shot in one take. As to my skill as a contact juggler, I recommend you veiw the full videos before passing judgement. In particular the 3-ball cage and the ten ball palmspin which are taught in volumes 3 and 4.
Laurence you seem to be regarded as an authority in this forum, and I would appreciate it if you would be considerate enough to actually find out more about a video before giving a review. Maybe by watching it first.
As to video clips on contact juggling websites, go to contactjuggling.org and look up the video clips I posted under both my own name and under juggle-do. All of which were highly regarded by members of that site.
Thank you.

-Matt

well, i would like to announce to the talkmagic commutunity that i am utterly stupid for judging something so critically after seeing only a few seconds. after looking up some other Matthew Olsen videos i can say that he is indeed far superior to in skill to me an i am actually considering buying one of the volumes.
and as it goes, i will now fully reccommend this DVD collection to someone wanting to learn.
my apologies to mr olsen, i jumped to the conclusion that you were another one of these magicians trying to get in on contact juggling, which you clearly are not.

again, apologies. i will not jump to such early and misguided conclusions in the future
