Mobile phone - text message trick ?

Postby tracematt » Dec 20th, '06, 23:49

Here in the uk about 3 years ago there was a great service set up....
you force a card, say 3 clubs,
each card 1-52 had a word associated to it, so for the 3 clubs you would get them to text the word "imagine" to 80338
after a few seconds they get a message sent to their phone, something like: I'm am trying to imagine your card, wait... its the 3 of clubs!
this was a good little effect as you can use any pack and their phone
I think alakazam used to sell it?
but the last time I tried it, the number wasn't working?
a shame really,
is anyone aware of a similar up to date version that is currently working in the UK?
thanks in advance for your help again

Why not just use a confederate who will be able to respond with the right message when you TXT them?

i think this idea was from online visions (or rather where i saw it)...

you basically record a voicemail welcome message on your mobile phone saying "the wizard/psychic is not in at the moment, please leave a message after the tone, oh and by the way the card you were just thinking of is the *card name*"...

so you just get them to ring your number and have the phone on silent or turned off...

Done and done . I'm ashamed I had never thought of that .

My new voice mail:

"You have reached David Rysin an entertainer, magician, and of course a psychic, please leave a message after the beep and I will return your call (I am thinking of changing call to watch/wallet to add a bit of comedy) as soon as I can....By the way...the card you just picked...it's the 3 of clubs"

Gatta love it :D.

Thanks for that,
~David

Thats a good idea. In the past i have used my delayed text feature, and that works well.

My voicemail message has ended with, 'Oh, and if I asked you to think of a card - you chose the seven of clubs... Yeah, creepy, eh?' for so long that I often forget about it. I pick up messages from people I don't know and they begin, 'Actually, it was the four. Anyway, I'm calling about...' and it takes me a few moments to realise what on earth they're on about.

But anyway, the text kind of thing you want is available from Discount Magic:
http://www.discountmagic.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id/417
for free. Well, it's free until you use it. Actually, you do get a .pdf detailing a routine with this which - as it's free - you might want to get it even if you're never going to use the text service. Maybe you can adapt it.

With a conferate and a phone, you can do that brain-melting miracle that's in several places including the acknowledged gold mine that is Scarne on Card Tricks. I can't recall what it's called in Scarne (elsewhere, it's sometimes referred to as The Ghost) but it was chosen as a favourite by a woman magician, and the title probably gives a clue to it being a telephone effect. I refuse go up to the attic and look through the book's index at the moment, it's just too cold here.
