Stealing The Show...!

Postby ultimatecreate » Jan 11th, '07, 15:10

Perhaps this post should be in the Dove's Head, as it doesn't actually concern magic. My apologies 2 the mods if it does.

Anywho, I ordered some magic - 5 X half dollar coins and 1 X SAW by Sean Fields from magicbox.uk.com. It never came, and according to magicbox it was registered. It most certainly should have arrived by now. How would I go chasing up Royal Mail about this??

As much as I hope Royal Mail have made a booboo, I live in a block of three flats. We've had mail opened before, and im almost certain someone from one of the flats thinking it was a worthwhile dvd grabbed it along with my precious coins. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks, Alex

P.S. I own a large baseball bat and a banaclava (lol  )

3 things here, which may help...

1. Magicbox haven't despatched yet
2. Royal Mail have dropped the ball
3. It's been stolen

Personally, knowing Royal Mail's rep, I'd give it a couple of days before you break out the balistics and go mad.

If nothing has happened, take it up with MagicBox, the contract is with them, and it's their responsibility.

I ALWAYS take responsibility for lost goods with my customers. After all, why should the customer chase the postal service which I personally hired?

Through delays etc. over Xmas I did lose quite a few £££s. Now, whether this was the result of 'wiseguys' trying it on and saying stuff had not arrived when really it had is another story, but the last thing a company wants is to upset its customers.

i've live in a little block of flats too, and had various parcels go missing quite recently...i e-mailed Royal Mail, be warned! they send you a long reply saying please give us dates/names/when it was sent blah blah blah...obviously not reading my e-mail properly, as i clearly state that its me that ordered them, not sending them :?

and i did ask them, well, where do they go if you "lose" them then? into someone's back pocket or what? they never replied...perhaps they lost it...

i had stuff going missing from ordering from magicshop.co.uk, they resolved it wonderfully, as did Martin Breese, who personally rang me up..i was a little in awe actually... jolly decent of him...

Registered, Recorded or Special Delivery/Signed For items ought to be trackable on the Royal Mail website but you'll need the serial number from Magicbox - they should have a copy to confirm the date of despatch.

There should be some insurance or other cover for loss in transit with Registered Post - it's a pain having to fill in the forms but you might be able to get advice at your local Post Office - assuming it hasn't been closed down like the three nearest to us were 2 years ago  ........

Just to add my two cents to this and seige will know where I am comming from. I have had a couple of bits go missing in the post. I remeber spending £40 at magicshop.co.uk and waiting a week and not getting anything. Emailed the shop and replacements was sent out the day i emailed and i got it the next day.

Before xmas i ordred quite an expensive item from the black hart when I got the jiffy bag it was torn open , and the jiffy it self was in a clear plastic bag with some lame appologie from royal mail, Lucky the item wasnt damage though.

I posted a few items to a magician friend in El salvador for Christmas. Although i made the last posting date before Christmas, the box only came yesterday. The box contained:

4 decks bikes
Sharpies
A few dvds
candy
an angel decoration
a soft toy
a bracelet for his wife

When he got the box yesterday it had been opened. The bracelet and soft toy were missing but the dvds were still there!

Hmm What was in the soft toy! :P only joking but theift in the postal system is quite high.

My uncle had quite a good job before he retired he was a celler master and he ordred in 12 bottles of congaic at a grand a go I think it was when he got the create of bottles there was only 11 , Turns out one of the customs men thought he would have a free bottle of booze.

oh yeah, just remembered, with ANY parcel or letter, you can ask for a Proof of Posting (something like that) - it's free...and gives you well, proof that you've posted something!

at least that way you have some kind of receipt...

Yep... tried that one... still don't amount to a hill of beans. All the post office seems to do is issue a receipt with the house number and a postcode.

It proves you POSTED it, but doesn't proove anything at the other end, and doesn't help with a claim.

God dammit. Needed this badly. Got a friend of a friend who's a president of a hall. Being a bit strange, I know he'd go nuts over this and I wanted to do it to him so I can get a gig worth a looooooot of mahoney. If i have 2 go through a claim I will be one unhappy magical bunny.

Thanks for all your response guys, helpful to the end :D

Just for future, i recomend using magic box, they do free next day delivery on orders over £40, using Citylink... iv spent well over £200 there in the last month, and everything has turned up the day after I ordered it! very reliable!
