Cigarette through coin

Postby iMage » Jan 13th, '07, 18:38

Having recently bought the Eddie Gibson versions of the above and Coin Unique I was curious how mine compares to other peoples.

The Coin Unique I received really is astonishlingly well finished - the gimmick is undetectable by eye even under the closest examination. The cigarette through coin, however, despite being equally well finished on the important side, is not to the same standard on the back where it's quite noticeable to all but the briefest of glances that all is not as it seems.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

The backs of these coins look like a medieval torture device for pinching your nipples...

It's perfectly normal, and never needs to be seen.

Fear not ! ;)

LOL!

Thanks. In your experience with these coins, how noticable has this been with the coin in its "normal", un-pierced state?

Obviously I'd never hand the coin out for inspection, using borrwed coin and switch instead, but I'm not sure I'd like to show a spec the back side of the coin (even in its natural position) at all if they were really close-up.

I think I'm probably worrying about nothing. The spec probably isn't going to be aware of the fact that they haven't seen both sides of the coin just before the cigarette passes through it - it's their coin, they just handed it to me, so why would they even feel they need to?

I suppose I'm just curious as to why the "assembly" doesn't sit as invisibly at the back as at the front, or the Coin Unique, which really are undetectable.

Due to the nature of the presentation of the effect, the rear of the coin is never in question.

In it's unpierced state, if your switch is swift and you divert attention immediately to then borrowing a cigarette, the effect is pretty much seamless.

All you have to watch is that when you BORROW the coin it matches the gaff.
With enough cigarette through, you can SEE the filter poking out the back without ever revealing it.

And yeah, it's pretty angle sensitive, but because people can be quite close-in on the frontal action, the viewpoint is quite controllable.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
