What a find!!

Postby Scott Daly » Jan 14th, '07, 20:15

I work as a saleroom manager at an auction house as my day job (well boring). On Friday a van rolled up and entered about 60 boxes of books for auction, as we get hundreds of these a week I didn't pay much attention but after a quick glance I found a shed-load of books on hypnosis and NLP!! As books tend to sell pretty cheap these will now go as a separate lot and I will snap them up for a few quid. Derren Brown watch your back LOL!
There were also tons of books on body language which I recommend to magicians as it's a great way to improve your presentation techniques and comes in handy when gaining the upper hand over difficult spectators and sussing out the best tables to approach etc. (although experience is by far the best thing to develop these techniques!!)
For anyone looking for something to start with I recommend 'The definitive book of body language' by Allan and Barbara Pease published by Orion.

Heh heh - nice find you jammy so-and-so

Auction houses are great places to get things from, especially when it's something that your average Joe Public knows little, or nothing about.
Only a few months ago I bought some ladder clamps (I'm a window cleaner by the way  ) from an auction - I knew what they were and how much they sell for. I got a box containing 5 pairs for £12. They usually cost £25 - £30 per pair new and I sold them for £15 per pair. Not a bad return - £12 converting to £75 in a matter of a few weeks :P .

Anyway, back on topic - let us know what you get and how much you pay for 'em

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Nice one!

Here's hoping Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrrell's "Hypnosis and Trance States" is in there  :D.

Congratulations, that really is a nice find! I may have to visit a few auction houses in my area, if I can find any, and have a look around.

Be sure to let us know how much you end up paying, and what it is included. And again, great find ;)

Talking of finding bargains, a local Jumble sale produced this one yesterday, all for 20p, It's the 1987 reprint rather than the 1981 original and various sites are offering it for sale at £5.

E-bay item (nothing to do with me!) currently at
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ali-Bongos-Book-O ... dZViewItem shows the cover.

It's aimed at children who want to learn magic but contains over 70 solid effects, many of them classics, worthy of inclusion in any professional's repertoire. Full of Mr.Bongo's wit and charm, as well as various articles and comic strip style features on the big names of magic in the 1980s. If you see one, it's worth shelling out a few quid!
