Would this interest anyone?

Postby Lady of Mystery » Jan 15th, '07, 13:56

A friend of mine is a computer programmer and I was chatting to him yesterday about the possibility that he could write me something that could store all my tricks and information about the tricks. And then take a routine template where I specify the types of tricks and automatically suggest a routine based on my template.

He then suggested that he could perhaps write it as a website that other people could use if I knew anyone who might be interested. So of course I thought of you guys.

Would anyone be interested in something like this?

Nice idea.

I am a complete disaster when it comes to organising myself (other than at work funnily enough)! (Hi I'm lee and I'm a disorganised CUPS sufferer (I think I need to search for another thread on this...or start one!)).

Actually I've been working on a little program, I'm a software/web developer, to basically store all the tricks/stuff I can do, I have thought of publishing it as freeware if it ever get's finished and is stable enough!

I think Marvell came up with the idea to store the tricks in a roller index thingy, so I thought the logical step for me would be to computerise it (I understand completely Marvells reasons for not doing this).

A website is an even better idea. However if you guys are going to do it I will not tread on ya toes (trust me you wouldn't want me to  )

As I said, great idea however, you would need to be careful tackling something like this, after all I'm not sure how a piece of software can deal with all the nuiances of individual performers when it comes to defining routines. I appreciate you mention a template, but what would it involve, i.e. card, card, sponge, rope as a template then the website throws out 2 random card tricks you've told it you can do and 1 each of spone and rope work? You could end up with two card tricks that really don't flow together, do you see what I'm getting at here?

I Still think this is a great idea but the thread could be used to determine what we think it can reasonably do, and what we'd like it to do.

Perhaps he could call it 'Google' ?

It could be call giggle?

P.S. If you decide to proceed and need any help getting it going feel free to PM me, I'll help where I can!

It is is a good idea but, say if i wanted a rope routine then i wanted to move on to a coin routine would it just throw up a load of ramdom rope routines and coin routines?

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

LOL ! Seems like we have a lot of developers on board. I have also started an Inventory/Library Program for my personal use and was planning to release it as freeware for TM when it was good enough.
Mine is at 70%. I also included an integrated browser wit enhanced google search options (it only searches in TM you just type the word/phrase you want to search).

That is quite funny, obviously the people working on the cutting edge AI are not around at the moment...

...great minds think alike so they say!

Sounds like yours is way down the path...I'm just starting really!

When the bus was green and the route master was king of the road. When you could get to Scotland and back for 2p have change to go to the cinema and buy a packet of chips. All out of the one 2p.

Having said that there are a load of comedys that have now gone and will never see the light of day. Bring back Steptoe.

Another wonderfully non-politically correct programme which the scardey cat TV companies wouldn't dare make today  .

PS I reckon we've hijacked Lady of Mystery's thread well and truly  !
