well, they phoned me up and said that they wanted to keep everybody in suspense throughout the competition, rather than have me in the programme and have everybody know who was going to win straight off from my first performance.

I thought that was fair enough...they have ratings to think about!

:D

I don't think it's been mentioned in the thread yet, so I thought I'd say it. Britain's Got Talent is actually based on the U.S. show America's Got Talent which had the same premise. It first aired last summer and I thought it was very good. Unfortunately, none of the magicians won  . Hopefully the British version will be better to the masters of misdirection  .

I won't bother until I've got the appearing and vanishing elephant perfected for Simon

In fact, maybe that's simething to work into an opening as it doesn't have to be a full size elephant :?

"Simon said that he wants to see an appearing elephant" - hey presto (as you make a six inch elephant appear from under a silk "I'll now vanish it back into it's trunk" etc.

GROAN

I was thinking more of a balloon elephant; easier to 'disappear' even if full size.

I personally think that all of these 'talent' shows are very poor places to showcase magic. Obviously any sort of close up is well out of the question in a venue such as the one in 'Britains Got Talent' and the judges stated they dislike magic. So this leaves stage illusions really and unless one has an act that isnt prancing around in lycra or being a horror magician then this one is one to leave be.
Plus talent tv is lowest common denominator tv...well that and reality tv. Steer clear

Without seeing your act it's hard to tell if you will get through.

However, you do come across as appearing to just be plucking ideas out of the air to get on TV rather than having a main talent to showcase. You stand far less of a chance of proceeding with this attitude as opposed to someone who has worked hard at honing a real talent.

As you said, you first tried acting, now comedy and what next?
